China admitted reason why they had so many strong technological breakthroughs

Their have helps form their most powerful supercomputers. Not only the strongest fastest, also the largest number of supercomputers. The result is faster achievements and success, without much failures, less time and number of attempts to try and test, less cost, less failures and mistakes.

Supercomputer simulated everything and calculated all the results, helped their scientists to quickly pick the right and best solutions. Supercomputer took China into previously unexpected success and solved previously impossible problems. They got things done, when competitions are still at lost at making mistakes.

这台超算再次为中国挣得世界第一
　　在世界速度最快的计算机500强榜单上，中国上榜的超级计算机总数超过美国，名列第一。据英国广播公司网站11月13日报道，根据最新的超级计算机500强调查，在全球性能最强悍的计算机中，中国占了202台。相比之下，美国有143台计算机上榜，这项一年两次的调查启动25年以来，这是美国上榜计算机数量最少的一次，不过在众多国家中仍然排名第二。日本排在第三，有35台计算机上榜，德国有20台计算机上榜，排名第四。

这次排名冠亚军均为中国获得
　　在世界高性能计算机的竞争中，中国可谓是后来者，大概在10年前，在T0P500中还几乎看不到中国的身影。可是，仅仅这几年的时间里，在世人的口中耳中，就再也离不开中国的内容了。从2010年11月17日开始，“天河一号”取得了世界第一的突破，打破了美国的长期垄断。到现在，在之后的所有TOP排名中，中国都保持了世界第一。但当时一直比较尴尬的是，中国当时的排名尽管世界第一，可在500名的大名单中，大多时候只有3台、5台或者10台，相比起美国动辄100多或者200多的台数，场景并不那么好看。

美国最先进的“泰坦”位居第四位
　　不过，中国追赶的速度，的确也是世界第一。从“天河一号”开始，“天河二号”到“神威·太湖之光”，速度几乎是几何级数的快速递增，几乎是在这10年里垄断了世界排名榜的首位。现在的“神威·太湖之光”再次夺得新的世界第一，其浮点运算速度为每秒9.3亿亿次，这比位居第三名的瑞士“代恩特峰”的浮点运算速度1.96亿亿次要高5倍，而比位居第五位的美国超算“泰坦”的1.76亿亿次要高5.5倍。并且就目前的发展速度来看，中国正在研制的新的超级计算机的浮点运算速度将达到100亿亿次，仍是世界第一。

中国近年的很多尖端武器都离不开超算
　　分析认为，作为当今世界高科技的最好代表，每台超级计算机均拥有上万个处理器，主要用于处理高强度的计算任务，其成本高昂，主要用于气候变化研究、核武器模拟、油矿探测、天气预报、DNA测序以及模拟生物分子等领域，还是高超音速武器设计、第五代和第六代战机研发、国际情报的破译和加密的首选装备。因此，美国、日本、欧洲都不甘被中国长期超越，也都在暗中加速发展，试图尽早超越中国。

　　但是中国自然不会拱手相让，现在的投资正在以每年20%的速度增长。而且，中国在超算的实际应用上，也开始了广泛的普及，从几年前的全国仅拥有2-3台，到现在一举超越美国，在TOP榜上占据40%以上的数量，这充分说明，中国一定会继续保持并长期占据世界第一的位置，从而为更多的极端武器问世打下牢固基础。（作者署名：军评陈光文）

Any village idiot knows that supercomputers give a country the edge in the technology race, from pharmaceuticals to climate modelling, from satellite research to missile development, from high speed rail to nanotechnology.

That's why countries invest so much money on building more and faster supercomputers every year – it's just not a mere ego 'my Daddy's bigger than yours' trip. That's why for more than half a century the US has maintained its technological lead over the rest of the world.

And now China's cottoned on to the same game, backed by a burgeoning economy, and is outplaying the US in their own backyard.

When it comes to R & D, funding is the main factor driving output, qualitatively and quantitatively.

China maintains reign over world supercomputer rankings

Beating US bit by bit
China now has more high-performance supercomputers than ever before, again besting the United States in global rankings, a supercomputer tracking organisation said.

The standing corresponds with China's growing reputation as the global leader in supercomputers, as the Asian power prepares to launch in June 2018 a prototype exascale computing machine -- a "super supercomputer".

Fastest supercomputers are in China
Some 202 of the world's fastest supercomputers are in China -- compared with 143 in the US -- according to Top500, a site that has tracked supercomputer development for more than two decades.

The list, produced twice a year, rates supercomputers based on speed in a benchmark test by experts from Germany and the US.

"It is the largest number of supercomputers China has ever claimed on the Top500 ranking," the survey said on Monday, "with the US presence shrinking to its lowest level since the list's inception."

Where are supercomputers used
Supercomputers are vital tools for advanced scientific work because of their ability to perform rapid calculations for everything from weather forecasts to missile development.

China has not only overtaken the US in sheer numbers, but also in aggregate performance. Two of the fastest machines on the list -- the Sunway TaihuLight and Tianhe-2 -(Milkyway-2) -- are in China.

Located at China's national supercomputer centre in the eastern city of Wuxi, the Sunway TaihuLight is used for climate modelling and life science research.

Others in the list
Taking the third and fourth slots on the performance list are supercomputers from Switzerland and Japan, respectively, while the American "Titan" sits at fifth.

The US led with 169 systems to China's 160 just six months ago, but its performance fell while China's improved in a "reversal of fortunes", the survey said. However, it remained well ahead of third-place Japan, which has 35 machines on the list.

China surpassed the US in the Top500 list for the first time in 2016.

China's need for speed
If China successfully develops a super supercomputer prototype this coming summer, it will take the lead in an international race to a build a system capable of one quintillion (a billion billion) calculations per second.

The biggest joke was that USA was afraid of China prowess when China first got to the top on November 2010 (Tianhe-1A)
using thousands off the shelf Intel Nvidia chips but build using Chinese architecture.

USA then banned sales of Intel and other chips to China to try to keep their lead.

China then responded by building their own chips as components for supercomputer, the Loongson 龍芯 "Dragon Core"

my uncle say maestro of sinkie title is good enough for him. He also say nowadays with internet access and worlwide maestro, kids don't need to go schools for education and he say learning from internet is a better and cost effective way.

Ah Tiong really made alot of new technological breakthroughs recently that seem to came from nowhere, with no past track records, no historic achievements, and were either lagging behind West or completely void in the area. Suddenly just out of the blue, they got this and got that all achieved higher and faster than the west, and their good results all kept coming out non-stop running like tap. Was wondering weather got Alien ET helping them suddenly, so the secret is supercomputer WAF.
