Escalators at Boon Lay MRT station had to be stopped this morning after a passenger fell down the escalator.

According to a netizen, Jamin, who wrote in to citizen journalism website Stomp, a passenger who was going to the MRT platform 'fell and rolled down the escalator'. This caused a domino effect, with other people falling as well. Jamin said that the MRT staff rendered assistance.

Chinese daily Shin Min Daily News reported that one of the escalators emitted an unusual loud noise, and they stopped its operation.

The other escalator was changed to a downward-direction, but it also malfunctioned. Passengers then had to either take the lift or use the stairs to reach the platform.

About 400 people were affected by the escalator stoppage.

Shin Min reported that the incident, which happened at about 7.30am, only calmed down at about 8am.

Even the PRCs can't stand the Korean 棒子.
