A Sydney bus driver is alleged to have taken more than 2100 photos and almost two hours of film up the skirts of his passengers, including schoolgirls.

Takuya Koaze, 48, appeared in Hornsby Local Court today on eight charges relating to the images he is alleged to have taken between December 2010 and last month.

He is alleged to have attached a "covert camera" on North Shore buses when he worked as a driver to film passengers, including children aged between 11 and 16.

Police allegedly found DVDs in Mr Koaze's home that he had made which contained more than 2100 photos and one hour and 48 minutes of footage.

"[The images depicted] clothed school-aged children with focus on their buttocks, genitals, legs and breasts photographed without their knowledge in public places around Sydney," documents before the court state.

He has been charged with five counts of "produce, disseminate or possess child abuse material" and three counts of "film persons private parts without consent to obtain sexual arousal".

Mr Koaze remains on bail on the condition he does not associate with anyone under the age of 18 other than family members or possess a camera.

The NSW government suspended Mr Koaze without pay as a State Transit Authority bus driver when he was charged last month.

Checks were also carried out to ensure there was no cameras on buses at the Willoughby depot where he worked.

Mr Koaze's matter returns to court next month.
