A new Facebook post by Aljunied MP Chen Show Mao has resulted in some heated debate online.

Mr Chen had posted a note last Saturday (3 Mar) on his Facebook page on the subject of economics in Singapore and government spending.

Some netizens however, are slamming Mr Chen for allegedly copying the points he made in his post from another netizen.

The article was said to have been written by a netizen 'Donald Low', who is believed to be Mr Donald Low, the vice president of the Economics Society of Singapore.

A netizen 'Xu Si Han' had first pointed out that "most of the ideas here (in Mr Chen's post) were taken from his (Donald Low's) note. Even the ideas are laid out in almost the same order".

Another netizen 'Shermon Ong' wrote, "I am disappointed, to say the least, that you (Mr Chen) failed to attribute the source of this article to Mr Donald Low."

The brewing storm prompted the netizen 'Donald Low' to clarify, "I have no problems with the post not mentioning the source."

'Donald Low' also expressed that netizens including Mr Chen "should feel free to use these without attribution", adding that he has since sent a note to Mr Chen.

But at least one netizen 'exodus', continued to slam Mr Chen for supposedly "borrowing" points from netizens.

He also wonders if Mr Chen is so bold as to use these "borrowed points" in parliament.

Most netizens, however, were delighted to see the post, calling it an "insightful" and "great analysis".

A netizen 'Jen Lfb' defended Mr Chen, saying, "many of the points raised are universal and not exclusive to Donald Low".

Another netizen added that Mr Chen did not claim to have written the article himself as he had stated at the beginning that these were views he had received on the subject of government spending.

See Mr Chen's post here (https://www.facebook.com/ChenShowMao/posts/293819900683277).

Chen already qualified himself at the beginning of his post and Donald Low has said he didnt mind. So WTF is the problem?

This must be from people who dislike him or envious of his credentials and credibility. Most likely PAP running dogs and jealous Opp parties.

Just because Donald Low said he doesn't mind now doesn't make his actions any less wrong. Chen blatantly copied and not credit the source. Who knows how many times he had done it already. Chen's Wisdom of Copy and Paste

CSM should change his name to Copy Someone's Message

There is offering feedback and then there is taking someone else's work and make it seem as it's your own. Whatever Copycat Chen posted on his Facebook page was certainly NOT Feedback from his consitutents

yes same guy. If WP is as good as U guys claim, why be afraid to be put under scrutiny. Instead of attacking the other supporters, why not argue your logic. Having to resort to personal attacks or twisting someone else's words just goes to show U loss the argument

To refer to "spending money on the poor and the disadvantaged" as an investment is an outright lie.

Any money spent on losers is simply is like throwing $$$ into a bottomless pit. All they'll do is squander it and then ask for more.

me quote from Chen SM's post:
Economics 101. Many of you wrote to me with your views on the subject of government spending ( from which I learned a great deal), including the following.

WTF is the problem? they failed to comprehend the last three words of the quote me made above. quite simple to comprehend if you'd ask me :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Before you jump to conclusion, you still have not proven what is wrong with quoting.

I fail to see how spending millions on elites who use that money to buy luxury goods, expensive sport cars, second, third, fourth and fifth properties, in the process raising the cost of everything is a much better investment to society.

So by that stupid logic, it's fine if I post the whole copy of Moby Dick as my own work as long as I put that in front?

He obviously learned a great deal, he copy the entire article and post it as his own.

As a lawyer, as someone who have gone through university he should know better then others about plagiarism

this is a valid point, the original source ought to be cited so that folks have relative ease of referencing.

i think he explicitly stated that he was just compiling the views of the "many of you".... though the majority of the views may come from one single person....

with this phrase "from which I learned a great deal", he explicitly stated that it did not come from him...

When prices rise, the peasants benefit too.

When I started my first business venture, I was a peasant. I sold it 5 years later to a member of the elite class. That helped me become semi elite.

Without the elite out there, there would have been nobody to sell my overpriced business to. Spending by the elite helps the wannabe elites become real elites.
