A teacher in Singapore who allegedly installed three secret pinhole cameras in a school female toilet has been charged in court.

According to news reports, Yan Wen Xia, 37, allegedly installed pinhole cameras in the fourth floor female toilet of Yu Hua Secondary School, located in Jurong West.

Yan had supposedly sneaked into the toilet three times in the mornings and evenings on 26 Jan and 15 Feb.

One of the pinhole cameras was discovered by a female student who immediately reported it to the school authorities.

A staff member searched the toilet and found two more similar cameras.

Besides the installation of the cameras, Yan has also been charged with stealing three SD memory cards from the school operation manager's office at on 15 Feb.

He now faces four charges - three for trespassing into the female toilet with intent to insult the modesty of users, and one for theft.

If found guilty of the first three charges, Yan can be jailed for three months, fined of up to S$1,500 or both, on each charge.

If he is found gulity of theft, he can be jailed for three years, fined or both.

According to the Today newspaper, Yan has since been remanded to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for psychiatric evaluation.

He will be staying in IMH for two weeks for tests.

Yan was known to be a well-liked teacher in the school before the alleged offences.

But the report did not state that the SD cards contain any evidence. Therefore if he merely stole those SD cards just to save some money, he must be very very stingy.
