MACAU: Singapore won its first gold in nearly 60 years at the Asian Table Tennis Championships on Wednesday.

Gao Ning and Yang Zi clinched the men's doubles after defeating South Korea's Jung Young Sik and Kim Min Seok 4-2.

Gao and Yang won the first three games, but the Koreans - who had created an upset against China's top seeds Ma Long and Wang Hao to make the final - fought back to win the next two games.

The Singapore pair held their nerve to clinch the sixth game and match 11-9.

Singapore won its last gold in this tournament in the men's doubles in 1954 when the Republic were hosts.

The Hong Kongers are the ones that used the term LOCUSTS to brand the mainlanders. About a month ago, the Hong Kongers took out a full page advertisememt in one of HK leading newspapers to register their unhappiness over the Govt's policy of allowing free acccess to the mainlanders to come to HK to give birth as their offsprings once born in HK are given same privileges as any HongKongers. As a result, the mainlanders arrive in doves like a plague of LOCUSTS. In that press advertisement, they actually called the mainlanders LOCUSTS. It is a very apt term as the mainlanders behave exactly like locusts. They come in swarms and eat away all the green leaves in a matter of minutes leaving nothing for the farmers who worked so diligently to grow and tend to the plants. There's a parallel situation here in S'pore, mainly with the foreign workers and students.
