There may be some connection in Thailand too. Many of their names are Indian sounding, eg Rama, Vishnu, etc...

The fact is 99% of Indians themselves do not know this aspect of their history.Because their history text books never mentions thus.Bodhidharma is well known in China,Vietnam ,Thailand and Japan.He is very much revered here and has many temples that worships him.But hardly anybody is aware of his existence in his own country of birth in Tamilnadu.

Because of the North/South divide in India.Dravidian culture and history is very much suppressed by N.Indian Aryan culture and their history.In fact,ancient China and Dravidian empires had ambassadors in each other courts.Whereas N.Indians are closer culturally to wheat eating Central and Middle East...But rice eating Dravidians and S.Chinese are quite close even in their DNA.

There is a clean cut between the Malay (Bahasa Melayu) and the " Bahasa Indonesia. Though mutually intelligible but with differences in spelling, pronunciation and vocabulary. But no decent Minang(nasi padang) would want to identify themselves as a Malay---though their origin is Sumatra.Minang identify themselves closer to Indians and Chinese.Some of the Minang people still carries a surname as Chan....and their famous Nasi Padang is simply an adoption of the Indian curry.Their culture too vastly different.Minangs are matriarchal societies.All properties belong to the woman which effectively makes the woman the head of the house hold.

The difference in some words in Bahasa Indoensia and Malaysia are due to their colonial masters.
Kantoor (dutch word) is ofis (derived from english) in Malaysia. But more correctly as pejabat.

Talking about Nasi Padang?I have been to almost every nook of the land of Padang.Naturally,as a typical Sinkie food had preoccupied my mind and soul.Nasi Padang is a favorite fair in the entire Indonesia...almost run by a family of Minang.But for unknown reason almost all the best outlet in the capital,also called the Padang is run by the Chinese.

But within the province of Padang itself the variant of food differs.For example in Bukit Tinngi,the equivalent of Cameron Highlands,have their speciality such as Nasi Kapau and Dadiah Campur.Again up it's volcanic highlands ---the nasi padang can be real tongue burner but the cold and soothing climate compensates it.Almost all sea food outlet in the Padang coast is run by Chinese.Amazingly tasty.Sotong that was swimming an hour ago is barbecued for you.

Yes,true--Kedah had been described as the suvarnabhumi.....in the Indian annals.Which literally translates to the land of gold in sanskrit.(thailand airport is also named suvarnabhumi airport).

I can expand on the reasons why Malacca sultanate superseded Kedah or Kadaram as written in Indian annals....but this is not a forum for academic discussion.Just Google lah.

Chinese land ownership is hardly a trickle in Brunei.

All Chinese burials and cremation are destined to one ulu place in Brunei only.

Chinese are not allowed to register businesses without bumi majority shareholdings.Even their bank accounts are joint signatory with a bumi participation.Even though the bumi as sleeping partner would not have contributed a single cent.
