Today’s Scripture Reading [February 5, 2012]

Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. [James 1:16-17. KJV]

The above verses have two contrasting natures. James, a servant of God, was contrasting God’s nature with our nature. People are fickle and keep repeating mistakes that we made over and over like a never-ending vicious cycle. We don’t seem to be able to get out of it. The world would be a much better place to live if mankind could only learn from history. Instead, history seems to repeat itself. World War I dubbed by early historians as “the mother of all wars and was supposed to be “the war to end all wars” but we known that all these learned historians were all wrong. Before the blood of those who got killed in the World War I could hardly dry up, the world saw another more vicious war, the World War Two. It started merely 30 years after the First World War ended and since the end of the World War Two in 1945 there have been some 250 major wars in which over 50 million people have been killed, tens of millions made homeless, and countless millions injured and bereaved. In the history of warfare the twentieth century stands out as the bloodiest and most brutal - three times more people have been killed in wars in the last ninety years than in all the previous five hundred! Do not err! Learn from our mistakes.

As we move to the next verse, we can take full comfort with what James has told us about our God because of His contrasting nature. Whereas we are fickle and sinful, God is always caring, loving and good. He is the same yesterday, and today, and forever more (Hebrews 13:8) and He knows what’s the best of us (Jeremiah 29:11). He gives us good and perfect gifts. The account in the first chapter of the Book of Genesis is a complete testimony of God’s perfect gifts and His perfect goodness. If you were to read the creation account in Genesis 1, you would find that God declares the end of each day good: “and God saw that it was good” (Genesis 1:10, 12, 17, 21, 25). Everything God made was perfect: the environment, the land, the sea, the plants and the animals. There was a complete harmonization of all the things God created; the eco-system was at its perfect state and God was so pleased with what He saw that He eventually declared “it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). We can see that some of that perfection is still quite evident today, for example, the distance our planet is from the sun is precise. A little farther, and it would be too cold, a little closer and it would be too hot; the atmospheric air composition of 78% nitrogen, 20% oxygen, plus about 2% of other gases are just right for all living organisms to thrive; each of these air compositions is not too much, neither too little. These are just two of those thousands perfect things that God has created for mankind.

In spite of all the things that God made was good and perfect, He was still not satisfied with what He had created. There was still ‘something’ lacking and unless that ‘something’ was created, it was still fall short of God’s own expectation of what ‘good’ or ‘very good’ was to Him. That ‘something’ was the creation of man, God’s own image and we can read God’s creation of man, Adam (and woman, Eve) in the second chapter of the Book of Genesis.

Although there are so many hard evidences that we can see and they are all pointing to God’s creation as recorded in the first chapter of the Book of Genesis, ironically, the account of God’s creation has generated more debate on the existence of God, whether the earth indeed was spontaneously created in six days as told in the Bible, or evolved over millions (or possibly over billions) of years than any other ancients books or manuscripts. Without fail, the story of creation as recorded in the Bible is the main point of contention among scholars and non-scholars alike at such debate. Atheism – that is, anyone who rejected the existence of God - is not new and it is generating quite a lot of attention these days, especially after Charles Darwin’s writing on the Origin of Species. Prominent atheists are getting the word out about their views in increasing numbers and generating lots of public debate on the proper place of religion in governments and societies in the modern world. And now more than ever, atheists have been able to network together and join forces because of the Internet. For many years, attempts have been made by scientists from both camps, the creationists who believe that God created the universe and the evolutionists who believe in the theory of evolution of their views but until now, no one can really prove by any scientific means one of these views is true and the other is false. Science will never, ever able to prove or disprove God’s existence. The best science could offer in this regard is to either show that the word of God is consistent or not consistent what modern scientific discovery about the universe and the things surrounding the universe. But “do not err”, “make no mistakes about it” and “be very sure”, God is the Divine Designer, the Divine Creator that created all things. When we observe all the things around us, indeed it is easy for us to fully accept without an iota of doubt of God’s perfect creation as recorded in the Book of Genesis. When the earth was just created 6,000 years old, it was perfect – air and water were completely pollution-free and all life-forms – plants, animals and human were all disease-free. And more importantly, man was sinless and his mind was not corrupt. These were the perfect gifts from God. Sadly, though we do not know how long it took for the devil to deceive man and caused his downfall, but we know that it was likely that it didn’t take too long because both the newly-wedded couple, Adam and Eve were still childless when they were tempted and deceived by the devil. They had not started producing any offspring and their honeymoon period of living in a completely pollution and disease-free environment did not last too long. Their disobedience to God’s warning not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil proved too much for them. Their disobedience broke their fellowship with God, and they had to hide themselves from the presence of God among the trees of the garden. Since then, mankind has been hiding away from God but still, make no mistakes about it, God is doing the work of restoring us back. His unyielding love for mankind is reflected in sacrificing His only begotten Son, Jesus, on the cross of Calvary so that we can be fully restored and reconciled to Him (John 3:16).

While the population of the world largely does not really know who the True God is, nonetheless, we can see that most ancient people knew that God does exist. Just go and visit the ancient buildings or ruins of the countries around Asia, inevitably one could see altars of some kinds were built by their ancient occupants. Why? Because they were all theists; they believed in the existence of a god or gods. Kings, queens, emperors, empresses were all god-believing people and special occasions and dates were normally set by them to pledge their allegiance to a god or gods they believe in. Sometimes these occasions could last into days or even weeks. Even today, we see many countries in this part of the world which are still under the monarchy system are still practicing-theism. These monarch has strong influence on their people, and it is a rule rather than exception that the people will follow the kind of god or gods that their monarch worship.

Theism, the believing in a god or gods is seldom a contention even though the practices vary very widely from country to country, from culture to culture. However, ‘Christianity-theism’ is a serious contention for many people. For Asian people who are believers of Christ, many are being accused by atheists that what they believe is nothing more than an “Ang-mo” or a ‘Western God’ and as Chinese (or Asian) we should not have anything to do with the “Ang-mo God!” In fact, if one would to look into the history of atheism, one can easily discover that atheism is more of a European concept. Atheists are strongly influenced by western philosophers because many of the writings on atheism were written by ancient western and European philosophers dating back even before the birth of Christ, for example Democritus, Melos, Epicurus. Interestingly enough, the writing on atheism by ancient Chinese or Indian philosophers were not as common. As we know, today most of the people who are trained in science, medicine and technology are mainly from the western universities and college, it is quite inevitable that these so-called ‘western’ scientists are influenced by the western religion of atheism. The despicable lie that Jesus is an ‘Ang-mo’ or ‘western-God’ is used by atheists here to discourage people from believing the finished work of our Saviour, Lord Jesus. We must be reminded of that the historical Jesus was a Jew and He was not born in Europe but in Bethlehem, Israel, Middle-East.

In today’s world, we notice that the growth of Christianity in many countries started after the western countries have left the country or after they were being liberated by local armed forces. Though the foreign missionaries from the west might have planted the seed for the growth of Christianity, the main factor that responsible for its growth is due largely to the work local people with, certainly, the help of the Holy Spirit. The unspeakable joy and experience of being a true believers indeed have given the believers their zeal to spread the Gospel. It is a fallacy to reason that the first thing that western people did when they had defeated a country is to start to impose Christianity to the local people. It was not what people have made up to be. For example, the Eight Power Allied Forces that defeated China in the early 1900 were western countries. They were the Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Russia, Austria, Italy. The only non-western country was Japan. Christianity was never a strong religion during this period even though most of these Power Allied Forces were inherently from Christian or Catholic countries. Today, with a total absence of western power inside China, it is now experiencing an unprecedented growth of Christianity and this is completely due to the work of local Chinese. Similarly, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia were ruled by the British and together with India, we were all part of the British Commonwealth for many years and yet, Christianity was never a significant religion. We see that in Indonesia, it was ruled by the Dutch, predominantly Catholics for almost 30 years, yet we seldom heard of a native Indonesian has become a Catholic or a Christian. The modern history of religion shows just the opposite is true. Christianity started to grow when all these western-power had left the countries and we are now seeing more people coming to Christ here than it was 50 or 100 years ago. We see that South Korea has never been ruled by any western power, and yet it has one of the fastest rates of grow of Christianity among all Asian countries. Ask a Macau resident, and you will notice hardly any of them is a Christian even though Macau, like Hong Kong was ruled by a western country for almost 100 years. The Portuguese that ruled Macau had never exerted any influence on their religious believe onto the residents just like the British who are predominantly Christians had never exerted any strong influence on Hong Kong residents’ religious belief. We can conclude that this despicable satanic lie that Jesus is an ‘Ang-Mo’ or ‘Western” God is the work of the devil and his workers to deceive sinners from believing who Jesus is. The mission of the devil is obvious: To destroy the souls. Atheism is, in my opinion, the most dangerous religion because, unlike other religion, the religion of atheism has no specific point of reference or manuscripts. Atheists simply pointing "things here or things there" – today they would say, look, if there is God, why you have volcano, and tomorrow they will say, look, why there are so many crimes if there is God. Their finger-pointing serves nothing more than trying to confuse unbelievers. They mainly help to spread the devil’s gospel by deceiving the hearts of sinners! We must all go back to the basic of what we are told in John 8:31-32: “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Besides the wonderful universe that God has created for our eventual enjoyment, we have yet another perfect gift from the above: The word of God, the Bible. Our job is simply to submit ourselves to Him, and resist the devil, he will flee from you, and come to God, to read and study His word, never doubt the scripture, and He will come near to you (James 4:5-8).

3) Who is the father of Joseph?
MAT 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

LUK 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli.

4) Who was at the Empty Tomb? Is it:
MAT 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

MAR 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

JOH 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

5) Is Jesus equal to or lesser than?
JOH 10:30 I and my Father are one.

JOH 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

6) Which first--beasts or man?
GEN 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
GEN 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

GEN 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
GEN 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

7) How many stalls and horsemen?
1KI 4:26 And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.

2CH 9:25 And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

8) Is it folly to be wise or not?
PRO 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

ECC 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

1CO 1:19: "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

9) Human vs. ghostly impregnation
ACT 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

MAT 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

10 ) The sins of the father
ISA 14:21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

DEU 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

11) Rabbits do not chew their cud
LEV 11:6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

"Gerah," the term which appears in the MT means (chewed) cud, and also perhaps grain, or berry (also a 20th of a sheckel, but I think that we can agree that that is irrelevant here). It does *not* mean dung, and there is a perfectly adequate Hebrew word for that, which could have been used. Furthermore, the phrase translated "chew the cud" in the KJV is more exactly "bring up the cud." Rabbits do not bring up anything; they let it go all the way through, then eat it again. The description given in Leviticus is inaccurate, and that's that. Rabbits do eat their own dung; they do not bring anything up and chew on it.

12) Snails do not melt
PSA 58:8 As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.

13) Fowl from waters or ground?
GEN 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
GEN 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

GEN 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

14) Odd genetics
GEN 30:39 And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.

15) The shape of the earth
ISA 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

MAT 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

Astronomical bodies are spherical, and you cannot see the entire exterior surface from anyplace. The kingdoms of Egypt, China, Greece, Crete, sections of Asia Minor, India, Maya (in Mexico), Carthage (North Africa), Rome (Italy), Korea, and other settlements from these kingdoms of the world were widely distributed.

16) Snakes, while built low, do not eat dirt
GEN 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

17) Earth supported?
JOB 26:7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

JOB 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Heaven supported too
JOB 26:11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.

18) The hydrological cycle
ECC 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

JOB 38:22 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

Storehouses are not part of the cycle

19) Order of creation
Here is the order in the first (Genesis 1), the Priestly tradition:

Day 1: Sky, Earth, light
Day 2: Water, both in ocean basins and above the sky(!)
Day 3: Plants
Day 4: Sun, Moon, stars (as calendrical and navigational aids)
Day 5: Sea monsters (whales), fish, birds, land animals, creepy-crawlies (reptiles, insects, etc.)
Day 6: Humans (apparently both sexes at the same time)
Day 7: Nothing (the Gods took the first day off anyone ever did)

Note that there are "days," "evenings," and "mornings" before the Sun was created. Here, the Deity is referred to as "Elohim," which is a plural, thus the literal translation, "the Gods." In this tale, the Gods seem satisfied with what they have done, saying after each step that "it was good."

The second one (Genesis 2), the Yahwist tradition, goes:

Earth and heavens (misty)
Adam, the first man (on a desolate Earth)
Plants
Animals
Eve, the first woman (from Adam's rib)

20) How orderly were things created?
#1: Step-by-step. The only discrepancy is that there is no Sun or Moon or stars on the first three "days."
#2: God fixes things up as he goes. The first man is lonely, and is not satisfied with animals. God finally creates a woman for him. (funny thing that an omniscient god would forget things)

21 ) How satisfied with creation was he?
#1: God says "it was good" after each of his labors, and rests on the seventh day, evidently very satisfied.
#2: God has to fix up his creation as he goes, and he would certainly not be very satisfied with the disobedience of that primordial couple. (funny thing that an omniscient god would forget things)

22) Moses' personality
NUM 12:3: "Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the fact of the earth."

NUM 31:14, 17, 18: "And Moses was wroth...And Moses said unto them, "Have ye saved all the women alive? ... Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman, ... But all the women children ... keep alive for yourselves."

23) Righteous live?
PSA 92:12: "The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree."

ISA 57:1: "The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart."

24 ) ACT 1:18: "Now this man (Judas) purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out."

MAT 27:5-7: "And he (Judas) cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. And the chief priests...bought with them the potter's field."

25) Jesus' first sermon plain or mount?
MAT 5:1,2: "And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying...."

LUK 6:17,20: "And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people...came to hear him.. And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples and said..."

26) Jesus' last words
MAT 27:46,50: "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, eli, lama sabachthani?" that is to say, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" ...Jesus, when he cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost."

LUK 23:46: "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, "Father, unto thy hands I commend my spirit:" and having said thus, he gave up the ghost."

JOH 19:30: "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished:" and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."

27 ) Years of famine
II SAMUEL 24:13: So God came to David, and told him, and said unto him, shall SEVEN YEARS OF FAMINE come unto thee in thy land? or will thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue. thee?

I CHRONICLES 21:11: SO God came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee. Either THREE YEARS OF FAMINE or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee;

28 ) Moved David to anger?
II SAMUEL 24: And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

I CHRONICLES 21: And SATAN stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

29 ) The GENEALOGY OF JESUS?
In two places in the New Testament the genealogy of Jesus son of Mary is mentioned. MAT 1:6-16 and LUK 3:23-31. Each gives the ancestors of Joseph the CLAIMED husband of Mary and Step father of Jesus. The first one starts from Abraham(verse 2) all the way down to Jesus. The second one from Jesus all the way back to Adam. The only common name to these two lists between David and Jesus is JOSEPH, How can this be true? and also How can Jesus have a genealogy when all Muslims and most Christians believe that Jesus had/has no father.

30 ) God be seen?
EXO 24:9,10; AMO 9:1; GEN 26:2; and JOH 14:9
God CAN be seen:
"And I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my backparts." (EXO 33:23)
"And the Lord spake to Moses face to face, as a man speaketh to his friend." (EXO 33:11)
"For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." (GEN 32:30)

God CANNOT be seen:
"No man hath seen God at any time." (JOH 1:18)
"And he said, Thou canst not see my face; for there shall no man see me and live." (EXO 33:20)
"Whom no man hath seen nor can see." (1TIM 6:16)

31 ) CRUEL, UNMERCIFUL, DESTRUCTIVE, and FEROCIOUS or KIND, MERCIFUL, and GOOD:
"I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy." (JER 13:14) "Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not, but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling."

"The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy." (JAS 5:11)
"For his mercy endureth forever." (1CH 16:34)
"The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works." (PSA 145:9)
"God is love." (1JO 4:16)

32 ) Tempts?
"And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham." (GEN 22:1)

"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man." (JAS 1:13)

33 ) Judas died how?
"And he cast down the pieces of silver into the temple and departed, and went out and hanged himself." (MAT 27:5)

"And falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all of his bowels gushed out." (ACT 1:18)

34 ) Ascend to heaven
"And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven." (2KI 2:11)

"No man hath ascended up to heaven but he that came down from heaven, ... the Son of Man." (JOH 3:13)

35 ) What was Jesus' prediction regarding Peter's denial?
Before the cock crow - MAT 26:34

Before the cock crow twice - MAR 14:30

36 ) How many times did the cock crow?
MAR 14:72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

MAT 26:74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
MAT 26:75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

LUK 22:60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
LUK 22:61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

JOH 13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, still thou hast denied me thrice.

JOH 18:27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

37 ) How many beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount
MAT 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
MAT 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
MAT 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
MAT 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
MAT 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
MAT 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
MAT 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
MAT 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
MAT 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

LUK 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
LUK 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
LUK 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
LUK 6:23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

38 ) Does every man sin?
1KI 8:46 If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;

2CH 6:36 If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

S. Korea faith-healer father's children found dead

AFP
Saturday, Feb 11, 2012

SEOUL - Three children were found dead in South Korea Saturday after their faith-healing father, a Christian pastor, attempted to treat their illnesses only with prayers, police said.

The bodies of the children, aged 10, eight and five years old, were found by their relatives at their home next to the pastor's church in the southern county of Boseong, a detective at Boseong Police Station told AFP.

"They were apparently suffering from infections that went untreated for a long time as the father was only praying for them instead of seeking medical treatment," he said.

The 43-year-old pastor's fourth child, a year-old baby, was taken in protective custody by police, the detective said, adding the father was under questioning.

Today’s Scripture Reading [February 12, 2012]

Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. [Jeremiah 29:12-13. KJV]

As in any form of communication, to be effective, it must be done in a two-way approach – we need to listen attentively and we need to speak without haste. Many corporations have spent millions in conducting effective communication classes for their employees. Effective communication is an important prerequisite if a company wants to succeed in improving its corporate performance. But effective communication is not only essential for corporations, it is also an important soft-skill that we need to improve upon if we want to succeed in life. To help us to grow and to mature, we need to be effective in our communication. It is going to take us a lifetime to perfect this art, the art of effective communication which, I have narrowly defined as: to know and to understand exactly what people are trying to tell us, and to let other know exactly what we are trying to tell them. It should be noted that effective communication is more than just these; there are much more to it.

Besides the need to communicate with our friends, our colleagues, our family members, we need to communicate with our God. A good start to learn how to communicate effectively with our God is to examine the concluding verses in Book of James: "Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:13-16)" These concluding verses provide us excellent instructions to help us how to appropriately response to every condition as part of our Christian living. From a Christian perspective, one must acknowledge that a crucial doctrine of Christianity is that God listens to and answers prayer. When we pray, we are also expressing our humility because we are telling our God, “Look, I am helpless; I am powerless; I am now surrendering my very self to You; I will put all my trusts and confidence in You; here am I; do what You think its best for me!”

Even Jesus prayed. Remember Jesus Christ in the agony of Gethsemane, and He prays that the cup will pass from Him. It was a prayer of extreme agonizing and crying. Jesus fully trusted the Father that He would get the very best from God, yet that prayer of our Saviour at such a crisis time was not answered. The answer to this ‘no answer’ prayer of Jesus can be seen in the interpretation in the epistle of James: The prayer of Jesus is a prayer of faith and trust in God, and not a prayer of assurance or guarantee. As we can note from the prayer of Jesus, and the epistle of James, we cannot just assume that if we only had more faith then we would recover from every single disease just because we pray or every of our pain and suffering will be removed. When we are sick, we are told to pray and to call upon the elders to pray with us. This is a good practice because when we are sick, especially when bed-ridden, we need someone to talk to and be bed-ridden alone without anyone beside is very depressing. Yes, prayer is needed, in good time and in bad time but we cannot totally remove the art (or science) of healing. For example, even apostle Paul did not tell Timothy just pray and do nothing to ease his stomach ailment. Instead, he urged Timothy (who was apparently suffering from stomach ailment) to take a normal medicinal remedy when he wrote to Timothy and told him: Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities (1 Timothy 5:23). This legitimizes the art of healing of using medicine and thus, biblically-speaking, legitimizes our need to seek medical attention when we are sick, and not to just rely solely on prayer. Through our prayer, God could direct us to the right physician or to the right hospital where we can receive the best possible medical treatment. It is very sad when we heard of some Christians (and believers of other faiths) who refuse to go for medical treatment, or send their loved ones to doctors and just rely solely on prayer when they fall sick. Nowhere in the Bible has instructed us to do this and for Christians, they have misapplied and misinterpreted the word of God. We must not ‘illegimitize’ those practices what the Bible has clearly permitted us to practice.

The following article – A Synopsis of the Book of James by Chakiris M. Moss – is a wonderful summary that will help us to appropriately response to our daily condition.

A Synopsis Of The Book Of James by Chakiris M. Moss

The Book of James gives instruction on how we should govern ourselves in the areas of trials and temptations, listening, doing, speaking, wisdom, boasting, patience, and faith. As we briefly examine these areas, God reveals His infinite wisdom. The book of James is a powerful tool of edification, correction, and justification.

James talks about trials that we face everyday. As Christians we should consider it a joy when we are going through trials and tribulations. The trials are simply a testing of our faith that God wants to perfect in us. James 1:3 states: “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience (i.e. perseverance or endurance).” Perseverance or endurance is what successfully brings us through the trials and tribulations. We often times give up just before our break through, or our blessing. We begin to doubt that God will truly deliver us or bring us through the trial. Then we fall short. When we doubt we are like the sea, unsteady in all of our ways. We cannot accomplish our goals if we are not consistent and willing to persevere. When we are going through trials, temptations may come as a detour.

We must realize that God tests us, but he doesn't tempt us. James 1:13 states “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.” When we give in to temptation, we give into our fleshly nature. We give in to our selfish desires. It is important to know without a doubt that God can and will deliver us and bless us if we are stong in faith and persevere.

James says that we should be quick to listen and slow to speak. Not many of us conform to this. Speaking first then listening second is the worldly thing to do. Many of us believe that what we say carries so much weight. Unfortunately, people equate their importance by what they say, and often times fail to listen to their spouse, family, children, etc. James prompts us to listen to the Word of God and not only listen but also heed to His word. This is, to do His word. Our actions speak louder than our words. People will hear what you say, but evaluate you on what you do. We must do His word. Faith without works is dead. You must put action behind the faith in order to bring forth the manifestation of the blessing you asked God for. And God gives us the wisdom to accompany our faith.

James 3:13-16 gives us a look at two types of wisdom. We ask God for wisdom to make right decisions. It is important to know what wisdom comes from God. Wisdom that is accomplished by envy and selfish ambition is not from God. In other words, if you gain knowledge of how to make money, but use it for your own wealth, pleasure, and gain; that wisdom is not from God. James 3:17 states “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”

James concludes the book with direction on prayer. Prayer is our direct connection to God. We can take our confessions, supplications, and requests directly to God, and He is just to honor them. We should pray in faith without wavering. James 5:16 states :The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (i.e. powerful and effective).” James points out that Elijah was a man just like us and his prayers were answered because of his faith that God would honor his prayers. We have the same prayer ability. God wants to answer our prayers if we are faithful and obedient to His word.

You say on the one hand that Jesus is fully God ? And so he prayed to himself then? You see the problem with Christianity? You cannot associate partners with God. That's why you start having so much problems with explaining the concept of trinity which is not in the bible anyways.
Return to the worship of One God.

God is one and there is no other like Him. He begetteth not nor is He begotten.

Jesus prayed to the Father alone. He never worshipped the holy ghost or himself. Peace

Yes, I agree that Trinity is never a Christian thing.

The new testament did not mention anything about the trinity. The trinity was a Catholic thing which has a pagan origin. Yes, there is the Holy Spirit. Jesus was the Word that was beside God when the creation began. Jesus was that blue print and the law and the way for salvation. Believing in Jesus is believing in God. He said that those that believe in Him believed God that had sent Him (there). God was the writer ?

The Holy Spirit is like "www" or the internet. If you key in www.God.heaven or Spirit, you will get to talk to Him using that system. There's only one www system, the one that my brethren are using is the one that I'm using now.

So, all three (God, Word, Spirit) is actually one but yet they are clearly defined.

So, is CHIJ satanic ? Convent of Holy Infant Jesus - now, you see that Jesus is always a hapless infant carried by an unknown woman (assumed to be Mary, the so-called Virgin ?) You make a guess. Catholic is Roma Catholicus, an ancient pagan worship or system that was imported or adopted from the ancient Babylonian civilisation. Nimrod takes the form of Buddha idol.

that too is the original form of christianity according to the historical records. it was till some idiot/group of idiots decided to have their own interpretation and twist around the original rules, that in turn gave rise to other forms of christianity that we see now.

its funny that most christians that i know do not even know about the accurate history behind the development of christainity. i even know of an Protestant idiot that told me his form of christainity was the original teaching that could trace back to 2000 years ago and the rest of the interpretation were merely shoot off from protestantism. took some historical records from books and the net, and throw it in front of his face, proving to him Protestantism only started about roughly 300 years ago. still got the face to tell me all the records found or written (flip thru a few books all pointing to the same thing, and insist everything on the net is wrong) were wrong and its impossible for that to happen. Idiots. That why to me, christians are in general idiots. most of the time they read and blindly accept investigating, whatever shit the pastor told them the believe blindly. upon proving they were wrong, they become lost and behave like illogical idiots including insisting that all the historical records were wrong.

most of these idiots do not know much about their religion, funny enough yet they are brainless enough to believe it. well....religion is indeed for those with lower IQ, cannot fault them for that.

Re: Trinity Is Never A Christian Thing

Again you say the three are one. Yet you cannot answer my question. Jesus prayed. He prostrated by putting his head on the ground and He worshipped the Father. If Jesus is one of the triune God then was he praying to himself asking for another way besides crucifixion ?
And Jesus said , if you want to know the Father, follow me! Not worship me!!
So if you call yourself Christian or Hindu or Muslim or Buddhist or Zoroastrian or Baha'i or zhuhai is ok as long as you affirm in your heart of hearts that there is only One God. The unseen Creator of all mankind . And,you must also match your earthly life of desires and pleasure with good deeds , regular charity and or help anyone in general.

I think you raise a theological question, and frankly I don't think I can answer this question because I am not a theologian. I doubt theologains can really give their answer to satisfy everyone.

All I can add is that, Jesus was fully human and fully God when He was born on earth. We have to acknowledge that because He was also fully man, He need God to direct and uphold His work of salvation. That's the reason, I believe, He prayed: "If thy will be done. Luke 22:42" expressing His entrusted responsibility by God to do what God wants Him to do as a reincarnated 'man'.

Agree that there is only One God, one Creator, but in Three-Person. From cover to cover in the Bible, starting from the Book of Genesis, the adjective "us" and the pronoun"our" are always used in the Bible to indicate that God is not just one person. For example, in Genesis, we read: Let us make man in our image .

I know this will not satisfy many people, but the concept of Trinity - One in Three and Three in One - is a very key doctrine of Christianity and we hold dearly to this doctrine: God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit. By way of analogy, all matter can exist in three forms: solid, liquid and gas. For example, ice is the solid state of water, vapour is the gasieous state of water, and water, is its liquid state. Hence, God can exist in three different form but He is One.

Was Jesus worshipped when He was on earth? Yes. Indeed He was worshipped by the wisemen who came to visit Him when He was just a baby. We didn't know how old Jesus was but like to be less than two years' old because King Herod ordered to kill all the babies who were two years' old or younger. So, if Jesus is not God, then why should these wisemen worshipped Him?

You see what are we discussing all along if not theology?
Were we talking politics? Are you serious?

Three in one analogy of water and egg ive heard many times before and many differing versions of it. Some even saying ther s a double yolk in the egg making It four in one!

Yes i agree that nobody can explain the concept because it simply doesnt exist. You are painting yourselves into a corner whe. You say that The Father is God, the son Jesus is God and the Holy ghost is God. But they are not three .
So who is the greatest amonsgt the three? Surely the Father then. Cos Jesus said in the Bible " My Father is greater than I " He did not pray to himseld but to the Father and told his disciples if you want to know the Father then, follow me.. I say this again so u have no doubt and im quoting from the Bible itself.

Do you agree that there are no Christians today that are followers of Jesus?

For eg Jesus prayed by prostating (placing his head to the ground and so did his disciples and the whole of Jerusalem also did the same.)
Jesus instructed his diisciples to instruct their followers to greet ppl with the words " peace be unto you"(luke 10:5)

I have never come across any Christians who does this ,have you?

In fact the only folk i know who greet ppl in this manner are the Muslims.

Sorry. I did not really get what you try to say about egg york. But if you really care to find out you can google for the information, all matters exist either in the form of liquid, solid or gas. Thiese are the physical properties of all matters. (Egg york is liquid and will become solid when boiled.)

The plurality of the adjective "our" and the pronoun "us" indicate very clearly that God exist not in one form. Agree that the word Trinity is not in the Bible, and so too there are also other words not in the Bible, but the Bible does tell us that God exists in the form of the Father (the First Person in the Trinity), the Son (i.e. Jesus - the Second Person in the Trinity), Holy Spirit (the Third Person in the Trinity). Those words not in the Bible are not added to the Bible. Rather, these are the words that explain in greater details of what the Bible mentioned. It takes a lifetime to study the word of God and this make the study of Bible so wonderful. You can practically learn new things and understand new things from the Bible because God reveals His message and His thoughts in a dynamic fashion. There are more books written to expound the Bible than any other books and yet not a single book can fully explain and expound the Bible.

Although it is not commonly for Christians to greet one another with phrases like: Peace be with you (and I wish we Christians should have done more on this), but this does not mean that we don't believe in greeting people in this manner. You can hear alot of hymns and Christian songs with lyrics on "Peace". So, really, I don't know what you trying to get into. May be you can elaborate further. I disagree that only Muslim greet people with "Peace unto you." We do greet one another with such greeting. The fact that you have not heard of a Christian doing this should not mean that all Christians don't greet one another in this manner. My mother was a very Buddhist and she got converted to become Christians and each time she met her fellow church members, this was always what she would greet: Jesus gives you peace! Like many older Singaporeans born in the early, 1900, they suffered alot and "peace" was one of the most important things she sought. The 'peace' promised by the word of God became very real to her. Only peace from God is the real peace. So, dear brother, you may have generalised your observation not too correctly.

As to the form or forms of prayer, whether we need to kneel down to face east, west, north, south, or to 'bury' our heads on the ground, these are just outword forms. Hope, I am not offending anyone who strongly believe that 'form or forms' of worship is important. As Christian myself, I find this is the least important. In fact, Jesus taught us to pray in secret rather than display it in public.

You have quoted rightly that Jesus has said "My Father is greater than I". But as I have mentioned, Jesus when He was on earth, He was fully man and also fully God. So, as earthly man, surely the Father is greater than Him. In the Bible, we are told that when the disciples asked Him when would the world end, Jesus reply was that no one and not even Jesus himself knows except the Father. Yes, He was replying to the disciples as man and no man (not even angels) knows when the world end. But as the Second Person in the the Trinity, sitting at the right hand of God, certainly He now knows the time for the world to end.

That's problems with some of these so-called scientists! Always try to bring things that are either out of this world or simply looking at so tiny objects that required high-powered microscope. Just open our naked eyes and we can see God's wonder! We don't need any instruments or equipment. Just a copy of the Bible and God will reveal to us His wonder.

Plasma though a 'fourth state of the matter" but natural plasma can only be found outside the earth. All matters that appeared naturally on this earth have three state...period. We really don't know out in the deep space. Perhaps there may be fifth, sixth, or even tenth state of matter. Who knows. No scientist can tell you what is inside a 'black hole". So, bringing things out of this world wouldn't help us to understand who God is. It can only confuse us!

No scientist can tell us what is really happening outside this world in the depth of our universe. For example, the speed of light which is said to be the limit of any moving object is now being question by some scientists because some have discovered certain objects can even travel faster than the speed of light - true or false, nobody know, at this for now. But the most important thing we need to take note is that, we must not bring those things that 'out of this world' and started to question God's existence. Remember, God came here to reveal himself to us and the Bible is the only source which reveal God's existence. He knows that we cannot reach Him - even not with the ultra-powerful electronic telescope, we see cannot see Him. But He was here already two thousands years ago!

All matters that occur naturally on earth have three state - liquid, gas and solid. in addition to matters that exists in three states in the form of either liquid, solid or gas, like there are other known dimensions of objects, e.g.

(a) Direction: 1) Up or down, (2) Forward or backward; (3) Left or right

(b) Measurement of objects: 1) width (2) length (3) Height

(c) The physical known properties of the universe: Time, space and matter

It is impossible for God to reveal to us what Trinity is because human just couldn't understand it but the occurrence of 'three-state' physical properties of all the objects that can be found on this earth gives us an indication that you can be one but could appear in three different forms.

plasma no need high power instrument to see it, u stared at plasma tv, u turn on the normal lighting, it is plasma, Neon lamp, that is plasma, when the sun rises the sun itself is plasma, lightning we see, that too is plasma, in fact in the whole universe in terms of mass and volume, plasma is the most common state. there is no need for any instruments to observe plasma, its around you. only stupid idiot like you that use wikipedia to figure out what shit is plasma think it only exist in outer-space not on Earth, for all the matter of fact, you might be staring at it the whole day if you are using plasma monitor or TV.

there is in fact a 5th state known as supercooled liquid - glass. then again most will just classed in under liquid. so well that debatable. But EVERYONE accept the fact now there are 4 common states of matters we can observed ON EARTH AROUND US.

how come your dog give you such a low IQ to make such a laughable statement on top? told you not to use science to support your silly belief, stubborn. ok come play loh, reveal your stupidity again. if i were to include those super high energy state and low one as you state, its far more complex than that.

Since there are 4 states now and you know it, are you going to include mohammad to the equation now? u know you guys are simply a joke in terms of your understanding of basic staff.

you want to get fuck again is it? create your own lanjiao theory again.I might be a synthetic chemist now, but my mathematics and quantum mechanic is very good in undergraduate days. you want to go into this?

u really fucking thick face, your understanding of it is a joke yet you dare to make so many bold discussion on it which clearly depict your stupidity to those who know this subject well. i bet in real life you are too used in cheating tons of uneducated idiot with your smooth talk. what to do, most that hang around church are those cannot make it in studies or works in real life, trying hard to find solace in someone imaginary.

Dear Synthnic (Artificial ?) Chemist,

You trying to be impressive with your depressive knowledge of who God is!

You can't even read exactly what my simple message is. Since when did I say you need high-power to see plasma! All I say is that natural plasma can only be found on the earth space or the outer space. You can't find them on the ground; I did not say that earlier but I am saying it now. Don't confuse other people with those meaningless technical terms that absolutely have nothing to do with who our real Creator is. Supercoolled, neon lights, plasma TV....come on give me break. God is not into manufacturing of TVs and neon lights! And by the way, plasma TV is now outdated. We have now LED TV just in case you don't know. Leave the manufacturing of TV screens to Samsung, LG and do bring God into the picture! Scientist (???) Rojak.

The word of God is concerning the everyday life right on earth here. God exists right before our very naked eyes (and we don't need to use high-power instruments to go and discover God. It cannot be discovered by that method, anyway). Everytime you take a sip of water we can see a glimpse of 'Trinity' because water can appear in solid form (as ice), liquid form (as water), vapor (gaseous form), and God is a Triune God: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Evertime you sit a table, you can see a glimpse of 'Trinity' because the dimension of a table can only appear in three forms - height, breadth and length; everything you take a plane it also shows you glimpse of 'Trinity" - it can only go forward/backward, right/left, upward/downward.

Plasma? Give me a break...and you have rightly proved my point - you can find natural plasma occured not on the earth but rather in the space! Quote from Scientist (???) Rojak: when the sun rises the sun itself is plasma, lightning we see, that too is plasma. In any case, it is also questionable by some real scientists whether plasma is really the 'fourth state' of the matter, and some scientific writings have placed " " like "plasma, the 4th stage of matter" because these real scientists don't really believe that plasma is the 4th state of matter and some real scientists claim that plasmas are a lot like gases. In any event, plasma has a completely different atomic and ion properties than the matters that most people with some science background are familiar with. The atoms in plasmas are different because they are made up of free electrons and ions of the element. And because of its unique atomic properties it takes a very special environment to keep plasmas going. They are different and unique from the other states of matter and should not be confused with the primary three state of matters - liquid, gas, solid. Scientist (???) Rojak, hope this could enlighten you of what plasmas are.

kam lan chee bye kia, playing around with words again. You use the word EARTH NOT GROUND. shake head. as usual trying to twist around with words. Even lets use the word ground, plasma can exist as well in nature for short instances appearing and disappearing, due to frictions and charges. even deeper down the ground, with radiation decay of elements heating things up, this is even more common. this one you still dare to peng, i respect how thick your face and head is. really i salute u.

of cos your dumb dog cannot create plasma technology and tv. just look at your dumb level of intelligence, how great can your leader be.

"it is also questionable by some real scientists whether plasma is really the 'fourth state' of the matter"

again question your lan jiao! fuck you understand, there is no such thing and being in science field for almost 10 years this is the first time i heard about this. I FUCK U cheebye useless uneducated xtain fool. say tons of time already, you want to spread your own theory of science, do it in your own chee bye church where everyone is uneducated like you. go impress them at how dumb you are with your groundbreaking nobel prize winning statement. Out here, you want to talk about science, pls fucking do your homework and not just play with words.

For your info, Secondary sch only teaches 3 states does not means there is really only 3 states existing in nature. its just that its out of the learning syllabus. really stupid to use this to establish your faith. i really see this as a joke. i bet the person who comes up with this analogy and linking it to xtain faith did not make it past A level and his learning stop there. well, what to do religion is the easy way out for stupid people to understand things.
