Steve Tan :"I did not have an ideal love story or love life, and I dated people. But my conscience is clear.”
Mr Tan said he had stated his position to the party very clearly, that the allegations are inaccurate. But he offered to step down as 'this GE is not about me, it's about Singapore's future'.
Steve Tan: “There are so many pressing issues, so many debates to resolve. I don't want this campaign to be about me”
WP Hougang MP “"I do not wish to comment on rumours…..I have said it before, if these are rumours, then there is nothing for me to say”
PM Lee said the party and Mr Tan could have "pretended there was no problem and just carried on".
PM Lee : "But Steve Tan is honourable, we are (as well), and we decided that awkward as it is, we just had to go through with this and made the last-minute change and explain to people: I'm sorry, something has come up...we have had to make a change,"
Labour chief Lim Swee Say : "I'm glad he took the decision before the GE. I suppose he came to the decision in the interest of the party, in the interest of the voters. I take consolation that we have responsible people who put the bigger voter interest ahead of personal interest."
WP chief : “You said yourself that these are rumours, why are you still asking me?"
