If I didn't get it wrong, the art of adding new colonies could be copied from the Americans. After the great depression, they let in huge number of immigrants. Studies made credited the immigrants for their great contribution in helping America to pull out of the depression. Unfortunately, what works there may not work here. Our physical size is just too small to accommodate more new colonies.

what you lack in horizontal space can be compensated with vertical space. have skyscrapers connect to one another on multiple levels, create highrise gardens and rooftop parks, stack highways in several layers, and very soon you will have vertical mrt's. the sewage system will also be massively vertical making the oft-used phrase "shit flows south" very apt for a place like sinkandpour.

me actually like horizontal gene transfers, adding variety to the gene pool, increasing resistance at the same time. for Singapore, space is the only limiting factor.
we are currently one of most densely populated cities in the world, not forgetting that other countries have suburbs. remember to pick up swimming :o:o:o

there's critical mass, and there's critical mess. even with huge horizontal space, calcutta is what i'll call a critical mess. but has it reached critical mass yet? don't think so as they can continue to sprawl. in sg's case, even at critical mass, there's hardly any sign of critical mess. shit flows smoothly, with only occasional ponding at lovely places. but that usually coincides with a sudden downpour. i visit sg regularly and stay at either a bungalow or a vertical hotel. after a couple of weeks, it's easy to tell if sg has reached critical mass or chronic mess. all my visits so far have been smooth movements of the bowel. no stains.

Our govt has already implemented most of your recommendations. Selected sewage system is already vertical. Want to see a suspended man-hole (for inspection of sewer) come visit our country. Our great leader is one step, they are even looking underground - maybe for the living dead. Recently they were talking of system to provide addresses for the underground facilities. I understand that providing floating buildings is also in the pipeline....

Could it be due to bad SG Education System? Five year-old kids are expected to know what a seven year-old needs to know. Such a bad system causes unnecessary stress and pressure on SG's school children and it takes pleasure out of learning

i attribute these manifestations to the lack of parental guidance.

parents must exercise their authority and smack the daylight out of these brats when they go out of hand to begin with.

and these brats go out of hand because they lack the care and concern, as well as proper family values from their parents to begin with.

and why are the parents aren't around? both of them busy working to sustain the level of comfort in their current lifestyles. a vicious cycle, simple as that.

making money and GDP growth are not the most important things in life. values, discipline, character, responsibility, etc are important.

if an education system fails, it will have serious consequences. it can breed generations of citizens with incorrect values and bad characters. wont these lead to the country's failure?

Yes in the schools. But in last few years, the large number of Psychology and Psychiatric students in the unis, a trend encouraged by the govt means that there a growing need out in the open, not just in schools. The more crowded spaces and loss of personal space, the longer waits, smaller homes, the more incidents of failures, strange languages, uncertainty of the future and general insecurity manifest this need.
