In some cases for 2+ generations. Plenty of hands to share the workload. Not like in Spore where "a" maid is expected to be one-horse-kick. They take care of the kids, parents, walk the dog, wash the car,....It's really not surprising that some maids crack under the workload.
yeah throw in poor treatment and diet too.

Maids are so expensive, many only have them come once a week. Same for all chores like a gardener to mow the lawn and trim the hedges or maintain the swimming pool. Many try to do without to save some money. Singaporeans can count themselves lucky to have maids that they can still afford yet they treat them badly.
