[h=2]Flash floods hit Orchard Rd and other parts of Singapore[/h]

It looks like another 50 years have gone past Singapore. Flash floods hit the various parts of Singapore again today in late afternoon. This includes the prime tourist area – Orchard Road.
In Orchard Road, with the heavy downpour, the flood barricades at Liat Tower were activated but it wasn’t enough to prevent the flooding there. Both popular eatery venues, Wendy’s Restaurant and Starbucks, at Liat Tower were flooded. Wendy’s even had to evacuate their customers to safety.
A spokesman of Wendy’s said there was something wrong with the barricade system and their business had been affected by 60%.
Elsewhere, flash floods had also been reported at Cuscaden Road, Newton Circus, Kampong Java, Cambridge Road, Thomson Road and Bukit Timah near Sixth Ave.
As rain was pouring down, netizens kept everyone updated through tweeter:
Hopefully, our new Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, can do a better job this time than his predecessor, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim. At the very least, Dr Balakrishnan shouldn’t make any more wild claims that such flooding occurs only once in 50 years.

PUB said that all 8 gates at Marina Barrage were opened to let the water flow out to sea. The agency also said that various drainage work in several areas is on going and will be completed successively in the next few years.@terencebob not again? SG suey sia!
