History of the Bata shoes that saw you through the schooling years...

In the 70s my group of fren saw Boots @ Bata, Beatlemania every one as crazy over boots,
at Capitol Bata has got display, we place deep into our pocket still can't afford the $55.00
boots.

At the same time Outram Park, Chancellor Store also display a nice pair of Boots also $55.00
we can only admired b'cos we couldn't afford, next wass a watch shop sells Rolex kia 6694 for $220.00
My colleague bought we can only admire! he show off its' water proof so he took a pail of water
I unwind his crown he place it inside the pail of water than realised I had fooled him.

He jumped and I laugh! we were young and playful back than.

Me oni remember Ah Tiong Panther brand track shoes...then later haf de student in sch wear Addidas Rom...:D:D

I owned a pair of panther shoes, but I think it was made in Japan? Eventually got a pair of Adidas Rom to replace those panther shoes.

Not only Panda, there was the white canvas shoes that come in a brown bag, it has green trimmings near to the soles, I forgotten the name of the brand & the basket ball canvas shoes with the two round circle at the sides, in addition to Bata.

Of course it was Bata Shoes, but sometimes to save cost & time, the cheaper alternative will do, back in those days one have to make a trip to Bata Shop next to Capitol Cinema, they didn't have Franchise stores then.:D

I think the china shoes are called 逍遥牌 (Xiao Yao), 回力牌 (Hui Li) & 双喜牌 (Double Happiness) basketball shoes.

Another brand of unknown origin i can remember is Flying High shoes in the 90s.

i went thru primary school with panda. if i remember correctly, panda cost about $3-5 a pair. This was the time when china products were made to last. A pair can last thru the year. Most of the time. i wore them them it the sole wear out till can see thru. bata was more expensive than panda in those days.

by secondary school, it either BM2000 or Converse.

Don't forget US Masters shoes & school bags which were only available in Sportslink outlet in the 90s. US Masters sch shoes were cheaper than Converse.

think kiwi was the hi-so type with the appilcator sponge on top of the bottle.....the normal ones are those you have to dip the T shaped-sponge into the bottle. bata had their own housebrand shoe whitener as well.

My favourite choice was the hi cut 'basketball' white canvas shoes.

I use mainly the KIWI brand, the cheaper ones are for emergency only, just like, we use only QUINK ink.

Young no money to buy football boots so daddy bought one of those black colour made in china "football boots" made of canvas and rubber bottom with studs moulded together with the sole. Happy like a toad. Anyone know this shoe?

Yes those thin soles was uncomfortable but many of my classmates were using it:) Pretty sure they were made in Japan.

Those days China was still a closed country & the only exports were simple stuff like hardware, bicycles, etc. The stuff you get from Oriental Emporium. The Adidas ROM was a good shoe. In those days it must have been made in Germany:confused:

Recently looking at the Adidas shoes to get something like those ROM shoes but couldn't find any. The new models got strange designs that didn't appeal to me.

You must be in your 50s then. Panther shoes? Yes, I wore them too.

I'm from the tail end of the baby boomers generation. Still remember the shop I got them from Fairways at Bras Basah :)

I still visit the ex- Bras Basah shops, some of them have moved to Peninsula Shopping Centre.
