Without Sir Stamford setting up trading post in Sinkapore back 1819, the island would be really a fishing village right ! This is a hard truth, just like Hongkong, without Opium war, Hongkong would never be what it is today right !

The 'sons of the soil' will complain and say that SANG Nila Utama founded SINgapura in 1324, he was the one who drank toddy & saw a Lion ( ang chee kow) & renamed Temasek to SINGA PURA. Raffles wasn't sent to colonize Singapore. He was sent to be seconded as Governor of Java under Holland as Holland promised the British some say in the then Dutch East Indies if the British didn't interfere with Dutch colonization of Indonesia. Raffles just passed by Singapore and realized it's even better.

The likes of raffles, columbus, megallan, francis light, james brooke were notorious pirates supported by their respective patron.
They plundered and tricked the natives into signing vast tracks of land in exchange for firearms and opium.

Well everyone knows that the Johor Sultanate sign off Singapura to the British East India Company for Commercial and the B.E.I belonged to the Rothchilds like mention by the other kakis above.
There will be no Indians or Chinese here and there will be very little Malays cos Many of Singapore's Malays today are from Indonesia(Lots of Javanese and Boyan) or from other parts of Malaysia and not natives to this island. But credit has to go more to William Farquer then Raffles to the diversity and strenght of Singapore today and Defiantly not LKY.

To be fair to the British, they indeed lay the strong foundation for Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his PAP men in white to further progress into a morden Singapore.
And to be fair to Sir Stamford Raffles, if without him..., will Mr Lee Kuan Yew ever ever had a chance to come to Singapore to build his success here???The answer is confirm NO!!!
