Commuters who do not pay the correct fare will be fined S$20, while those who abuse concession cards will pay a S$50 fine. According to the Public Transport Council (PTC), there has been a significant drop in the number of commuters caught for evading bus and train fares between July and October. TransitLink said since the penalties were introduced, an average of 15 people were caught daily for evading bus fares, a sharp drop from 400 offenders caught daily before July. In September, a total of 305 commuters were caught for evading fares, a 46 per cent drop from July when 569 offenders were caught. The PTC also received 112 appeal cases in the last three months. Most cases were pardoned as those caught for not paying their full fares were first—time offenders.

How much does the public transport providers CHEAT US everyday with glitches in the ticketing system, how audit that?

I bet, it is more than those who really cheat on fares!...You believe the "Straight Times", you have a crooked brain!...:D

Shitty Times :D

the best way is to FINE. no wonder we have a FINE gahbrament.

PAP are wise. You need tougher penalties to control rule following sinkies.

This transportation pie is a monopoly. Even if cheaters cheated them, they still make healthy profits. Service wise, you cannot say is world class as there are no one to compare to. (Only some benchmark that are plucked to justify it is worldclass)

Dun blame the PAP, it is the sinkies that vote for them.

pay more to be like sardines. that's what we call world-class transportation system

I thought theres supposed to be thousands of cheats out there costing millions of losses? Isn't that why all the other honest passengers were made to compensate for the lost income?? Will fares now be reduced since majority are now paying the correct fare???

With the report that cheating is under control, what excuse will they use the next time they want to up fare prices?

Can't blame the price of oil its now down to 2007 prices. Are we know going to get fare reductions?
