Thursday, Oct 27, 2011
New immigrants and Singaporeans will have opportunities to interact in the first-ever Integration Carnival come Oct 29.
Jointly organised by the People's Association (PA) and Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC), it will bring together 2,500 new immigrants and locals from around the island to celebrate Singapore's vibrant and diverse culture and heritage.
Participants can expect engaging exhibits and carnival stalls that promote appreciation of Singapore's local customs, traditions and lifestyle. Integration and Naturalisation Champions who are grassroots leaders will be on hand to help facilitate the event.
One highlight of the event will be the Amazing Integration Race where about 30 teams comprising a mix of new immigrants and local Singaporeans will work together to complete challenges that introduce them to various aspects of the Singapore Story. During the race, participants will get to widen their knowledge about Singapore.
The carnival feature traditional games such as five stones, top spinning and congkak, where locals can relive the good old days while sharing with the new immigrants more about Singapore's heritage and culture.
Families of new immigrants and Singaporeans will also be encouraged to bond over lunch as they enjoy a meal together.
The crowd will also be treated to dynamic stage performances such as renditions of local tunes performed by a multi-racial musical performance group and a Japanese Taiko Drum Performance. These will give new immigrants as well as locals insights into Singapore's multi-cultural society.
The Integration Carnival will kick off at 9am, Oct 29, at the Singapore Discovery Centre.
