About irregardless vs regardless

Regardless of what you have heard, “irregardless” is a redundancy. The suffix “-less” on the end of the word already makes the word negative. It doesn’t need the negative prefix “ir-” added to make it even more negative.

irregardless Meaning(s)(r) regardless; a combination of irrespective and regardless sometimes used humorously

regardless Meaning(s)(s) (usually followed by `of') without due thought or consideration

(r) in spite of everything; without regard to drawbacks

Our Health Minister love to use this redundant word "irregardless". He said it said in Parliament today.

Irregardless of circumstances, I think it's advicable that one should never use an erroneous word such as "irregardless". :)

Thanks for posting and pointing out this common error.

There is no such word as "irregardless". It is invented by sinkies, who are also fond of using "on" and "off" as a verb - "on the light, off the light" instead of "switch on", etc....

Irrespective, yes.

Actually, there is no such word as irregardless, yes it is a redundancy.

However, many people in Singapore especially Indians (I am not racist, just pointing out the frequent users of the word, irregardless) like to use it.

irregardless is not even a real word

Usage note
Irregardless is considered nonstandard because of the two negative elements ir- and -less. It was probably formed on the analogy of such words as irrespective, irrelevant, and irreparable. Those who use it, including on occasion educated speakers, may do so from a desire to add emphasis.
