Suicidal man jumps from overhead bridge
Shin Min Daily News - 10 hrs 43 mins ago
A man died after he jumped off an overhead bridge yesterday.
The incident took place at 3.15pm, at Blk 578, Yishun Ave 3.
The deceased is a 43-year-old Chinese man who is believed to stay in the area.
Witnesses say the man had climbed over the railing of the 4.5-metre-high overhead bridge. But no one tried to stop the man or raise an alert as passersby thought the man was there to trim the bushes planted at the sides of the bridge.
According to witnesses, the man landed face-up on the road and was bleeding from his head. He was not hit by any vehicles but died of his injuries at about 3.30pm.
Passerby Mr Wang (59, civil servant) walked past the man before he jumped from the overhead bridge.
Mr Wang said, "I saw him carefully climbing over the railings of the bridge so I thought he was trimming the bushes."
Mr Wang said the man looked normal at the time. About 45 minutes later when Mr Wang returned to the area, he saw the body and realised it was the same man from the bridge. Mr Wang now regrets not approaching the man earlier as he believes he might have prevented the tragedy.
