fyi, the signal system in NE-line is using refurbished electronic cards. i am not sounding sour cos i had bad experience working for them when i was working on this NE project but just stating a fact.

in the train stations and depot, they have very complicated systems containing electronic cards which are supposed to relay signals, the purpose is to ensure the safety of the overall. However, these cards as i remember,instead of getting new ones, the contractor Alstom sent them back to Italy for them to troubleshoot and rework the cards,and sent them back for re-use. Yes, it may sound cost effective to refurbish them but the phase which I was in, it's only the beginning of revenue service and they should have got new ones and not refurbished ones. put it simply, when you go and buy a computer, you have 7 days one to one, in the above case, you are not allow to change even if it's not working.
in my own opinion, it's safe to travel on the train but you may get stucked in the train if any of the system is mal-functioning. these trains are driverless but are better and safer than those operated in the NE and EW line, which is driven by a human.
