The positive aspect of TCB is that it's not like him to be vocal. He could have trumpeted about the many individuals he had helped as a doctor or mp, but he wouldn't and didn't.
He did hint at the type of person he is in a few ways, that he would want top civil servants to be people oriented and he wanted to be a unifying figure for all Singaporeans and
promote multi racialism. He cares for people, all Singaporeans of all political inclinations and all races.

The negative aspect about him is that he has been associated with pap for too long. He has many friends in top government positions past and present.
He could be even indoctrinated with the pap mindset in some ways.
He may not like some things that are happening, but my guess is that he still agrees with the fundamental actions and policies of the pap government.
As president, he would have agreed with most pap government actions, but if the government ever tried to do anything funny, you can bet he would keep
pressurizing them and harping on it until there was full accountability or a retraction, as much as TJS or any other opposition related candidate would have.

The person he reminds me of somewhat is former ag Walter. He once defended SG's system as being unique and suited to us.
Then again, he has never failed to speak his mind and do things according to his conscience, as shown by the organ sale case.

Lets ask ourselves frankly; are we comfortable to have three corner fights in all GRCs come GE2016 base on just one case? And what is the strength of this single case?

Will we want to see three corner fights in Marine Parade, East Coast, Bukit Timah and Tampanies GRCs, Potong Pasir, Hougang and Joo Chiat SMCs come GE2016?

My question as to why opposition parties made the efforts not to engage in three corner fights in GRCs is still unanswered.

In GRC contests in GE, the opposition parties all saw themselves as being against pap and try their best to co-operate.
Strange bedfellows in some cases, but still try.

In PE, all the candidates saw themselves as individuals and with a chance to win. All had egos and they didn't have a common goal like in GE.
Obviously, "some people" were more accurate in their self assessment than others. :o

This statistic I don't care if you people are willing to ... the statistic will be different if you will listen ... who are the anti-pap ? Who carries arms ? Not old folks, many old folks don't even know how an M-16 looks like. FTs can't be bothered with it. It's the NS MEN and EX-NS MEN !

I think the Nicole effect is overated, her popularity is illusional. She shined inthe GE only because of TPL.

TRE endorsement hurt rather than help, I would think.

At the end of the day, TCB is too honest, cautious and principled. In the past he had relied on the PAP brand name and do-good goodwill to score high mandates. But this PE was probably his most intense fight ever.

You have to realize that Tan Cheng Bock had to thread a fine line. As the moderate candidate, he has to win the votes from both the centrist-right and centrist-left voters. His message may not be convincing enough to the leftists, but if he tried to reach out further to them, he will end up alienating the centrist-right voters and losing their votes, for very little gain into the centrist-left votes. Like it or not, there are more of these centrist-right than centrist-left.

Considering that most voting projections, including the Scroobal, severely underestimated the support that TCB would get from the centrist-right, I think Tan Cheng Bock did the right thing with his position. It wasn't your vote that he was trying to win. He was trying to win the vote of the people who would normally vote for the PAP's preferred candidate, and I think he did a good job with that, just a pity it fell a little short.
