What Happens To Male Chicks

Have you ever wondered what happens to the male chicks as chicken farms almost 100% of them are female chickens. Well...here is a video that reveals all.

When in Canada, I buy meat from the farmer's market - at least the animals sold there have had a "normal" life. Chickens, pigs, cows, have families.

Everyone should read the book "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran - it explores our conscience and investigates "factory farming" in USA. I love meat, love BBQ, quite difficult for me to become vegan, but after reading the book, I make my choice of meal based on lesser cruelty to the animal. At the food court, I would choose duck over chicken. I have totally boycotted KFC since.

Dead wrong. Its the same with goats, and many other males of the various animals in the farming world. It is really sad. Dairy breeds holstein, gurnsey etc are the worst affected. I hate to describe it. Check out calfs in crate, white meat etc.

Haha...bad guess? I watched The Cove and parts of The Food Chain and being a squeamish feel, I will take a rain check on those videos. Blood and gore is just not my cup of tea.

I am the same. I tend to panic when members of dinner party order veal. I tried to persuade them of it by suggesting something else. Veal is not served in many restaurants because of it.

This is where I am ok with Tonychat. The only thing I agree with that guy is that we should eat less meat and try to go vegetarian if we can.

Negative, dairy cow and cow for beef are different species.

So, when dairy cow born male, it depend on two things, in country which sell veals, they will let it live for 4 years and then slaughter it for veal, in country which does not sell veals, they are kill at once after birth, because male dairy cow does not produce milk. The farmer is to make money, not to run a zoo.

So, female domestic animal is more valuable than male domestic animal, the opposite of human being in PRC and India, where the female baby is killed instead.

I thought they need rooster to fertilize the eggs so that they can be hatched into new chicks. Unless they have enough males or roosters to fertilize, else they gotta have some form of artificial fertilization inplace in the hatchery. After watching the clip where over 100K or more of male chicks are exterminated daily, and comparing it to the recent news where some animal rights group are lobbying for signatures to free the dolphins in RWS, I can't seem to strike a moral balance how could one life form deserve more attention than the other. Maybe one deserves to die horribly for a greater purpose to sustain mankind while the other does not deserve to be jailed in captivity just to amuse mankind. If that is the case, then justification is not how cruel and the extent of death but which one dies for a better cause from mankind's perspective. :(

Castration refers to removal of the testicles - bugger still can live. If cut away dick, cannot pee, soon will mati.

BTW, years ago when cholesterol wasn't yet in our vocab, my unlce used to patronise a soup kambing shop in Queens Street for their invigorating"Soup Kotek Kambing." I thought it was gross and stupid, but now I suppose eating every part of the animal is just not wasting it. However, given a choice, I wouldn't select that organ.

According to animal rights group, dogs have more rights, then cats, then through varies pets, and dolphins and whale, more rights than cow and chicken.
I know it is sad, but this is true.

Just like amercian and european have more rights in singapore courts than PRC and ah neh.
