There is a need for a strong President to check on a rogue govt led by a rogue PM. Singaporeans may be daft, or some people may think so. But no Singaporean is going to believe that an independent director handpicked and paid by the management can be an effective watchdog to monitor the wrong doings of the management. This principle is applicable to the Elected Presidency. But some daft Singaporeans will not think, and will still be deceived. Serious and rational thinking Singaporeans, and there are many out there, will want to vote for a truly independent individual that can check on the govt.

Dream lah. It will be Yam v Bok, because only Bok can chip at both 60% and 40%.

The President erections is very important this round. It is not just about checking gahmen. This gahmen to me is still fundamentally sound, the policies are still in correct direction, except they forgot that society is not moving so fast. I think nobody will ever agree 100% with anybody. Even your husband and wife you will have quarrel one.

The important for this erection is that I can see the PAP very worry they lose more seats the next GE. So they need someone to help them balance up as President. They might even thinking of transfer some veto power or decision power to President if it is someone they can confident in. That is a big reason why I will not vote TT also. But of course you can read the other 3 bigger reason why I not vote TT in the other "Voting" thread.

So we don't want to allow too much power concentration, we not vote TT. But we also not want too much power concentration for oppo. Why PAP lost so many vote this round is people want more diverse voice. If oppo get both President and Parliament next round, then we are back to square 1. This is also good reason why I cannot vote SDP backed TJS.
