SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has weighed in on the ongoing debate concerning the public transport fare review.

He said that a review is necessary from time to time and increases cannot be helped.

Speaking at a National Day light-up ceremony at his Teck Ghee constituency on Saturday, Mr Lee however noted that the Public Transport Council (PTC) is currently doing its work and urged Singaporeans to relax.

Mr Lee said the government's interest is to ensure that the country has a good transport system that Singaporeans can afford.

But he added that transport companies would have to be allowed to break even so that they can provide a good and efficient service.

Mr Lee said that the government will also make sure, through the PTC, that when the fares are raised they are reasonable and justifiable.

>>But he added that transport companies would have to be allowed to break even so that they can provide a good and efficient service.<<

Ass Loong talking from asshole again. Transport companies are making millions now, not just breaking even.

But he added that transport companies would have to be allowed to break even so that they can provide a good and efficient service..

What does he mean "allowed to break even"

Our public transport companies are making plenty of $$$. The only way "they would break even" is if the fares are reduced:rolleyes:

When the old dad speaks rubbish, the son too will follow suit..;)

LHL is scrambling with and spewing rubbish as the one he sent to MOT (LTY) is cluelessly confounded and dumbfounded. WP whether shrewdly or luckily has all the upper hand on this take. Why talk profits for investors? Public transport is an essential and shouldn't be a source of profits for people with money to invest to make more money. Nationalize and talk about the balance between surpluses and services, and sack the entire redundant PTC along the way.

The fare increase is obviously unjustified.

That's why the excuses these people give for the increase is so lame:rolleyes:

They invest billions of dollars for their start up. Can they make billions within a few years? RWS and MBS may make millions last year and this year, but their capitals were billions. How long do you expect them to recoup their investment?

You want our MRT to be like KTM? Mahathir wanted to sell his KTM for ONE RINGGIT!

If the present way of managing public transport is not satisfactory then they just have to find other means of running it.
They are top talent and we paid top dollars for them; what we get is always the same excuse - shareholders profits, service standards will drop, others around the world are doing the same, etc,
If the only way to run a public transport company is to increase fare every year, then no point paying these monkeys so much. A donkey can do the same.

When I was young I questioned my parents and my educators why we have to pay income taxes andall the other taxes. Was told by them that its to help pay for all the govt and public services so as everybody can afford to use them. Now we are still paying taxes but yet I don't see those good or services being cheap. Which sometimes makes me stay up at nights wonderingwhat our hard earned tax $ went to?

This is incredulous to say the least !!!

The profits goes to the shareholders and they are from fares from the citizens. Period !!

Have you ever wondered about the role of a gov't:confused:
What is the PAP doing dabbling in business. If they think they are businessmen then they should get out of the gov't & let others do the job.

What I see is a conflict of interest
They are so busy lining up the own pockets that they have forgotten that they are civil servants.

Barely three months since the last GE, where he had to apologise and promised to do better, things are pretty much the same from where I am standing. Its still business as usual : price increase of services, welcoming all FTs, million $ ministerial salaries. Sporeans are truly fools.

To be honest, PM Lee's words are worth nothing, all that he has said with regards to helping Singaporeans are all rubbish. Remember his apologies during the election? what has he done to keep those promises he made? He comes out with this 3rd rate explination about transport fares. Only fools are retards believe him. He only does things for his own benefit. Thanks for all this 60%

Many uncles/aunties expected the worst when the PAP was re-elected. It's become painfully obvious that the only way to deal with their selfish money making policies is to put more opposition into parliament.

You need a full-time opposition in there to keep a watchful eye on LKY & Son. They have too many sticky fingers under them

What do you expect when time and time again they are elected into government and paid millions to do so. Money if obviously a big motivation to keep the system running.
