AN AUSTRALIAN national was charged in court on Friday with outraging the modesty of a waitress in May.

Matthew Paul Freston, 38, who works on board a ship, is alleged to have grabbed the buttocks of the 23-year-old woman along South Bridge Road on May 20, 2011.

His lawyer Mr Thangavelu asked for an adjournment to take instructions.

The case will be mentioned on July 1.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to two years, fine, caning or any combination of the punishments.
