More than 600 Singaporeans turned up at Hong Lim Park this evening to attend an event organized by Transitioning.org, a NGO dedicated to helping unemployed Singaporeans.
Though the organizers have called for the participants to bring their own food to have a ‘picnic’ at the park, few did so due to the hot weather as the crowd gathered around the podium to hear the speakers speak on a variety of topics ranging from the PAP government’s pro-foreigner hiring policies and CPF issues.
Among the speakers are presidential hopeful Tan Kin Lian, NSP candidates for the last general election Tony Tan Lay Thiam, Jeanette Chong-Aruldoss as well as the organizer Gilbert Goh.
Popular young politician Nicole Seah was spotted at the event as well.
A few banners and placards were put on imploring the PAP government to review its labor policies as well as the CPF minimum sum scheme which has effectively locked up the life-savings of many Singaporeans.
One retiree we spoke to who only wants to be identified as ‘Lawrence’ asked why Singaporeans are not allowed to manage their own savings:
It is not fair to keep our CPF savings which belong to us and not the government. Look at me, how many more years can I live? The govt should scrap the minimum sum and returned all our monies to us at 55 years old like in the past.”

Nah! that is an understatement, it should have been "the government is telling the people their savings is their long term investment, it is an investment, beyond your grave".
