If you do your maths right another 6 pct loss will easily translate into loss of additional 31 seats, giving opposition a total of at least 37 seats.
The math is simple. The GRC system has a tipping point. The moment the votes fall below a certain percentage, the seats will swing dramatically . Between 45 pct and 55pct, the number of seats for and against Pap can swing wildly. At 55pct of the votes, the GRC system can even give rise to less than 50 pct seats! We will probably have to live with a coalition government!
That is a Faustian bargain that Pap has over looked. GRC favors the party that is above 60 pct and that is why the GRC can give an anomaly whereby 60 pct votes can give an outcome of 93 pct seats. This is a statistically freak result. That is why Pap is very very very very very lucky this round.
The pendulum swing between votes and seats is not linear.
Sometimes I wonder, how f@@k up the Pap is. When you tinker with a fair system, there will always be unfortunate side effects. Another really f##ck up idea is to tie ministers salary to the top tier professions. Any dumb ass knows that the top tier will always be a runaway locomotive and an outlier. Any discount tied to a runaway locomotive will still be a runaway number. The speed is the same with the number a few steps behind.
The government have traded too many Faustian bargains in tinkering with the system. It is about time they have to tell themselves that they cannot outsmart the system. simple rules are simply best left as they are.

If done separately all on SMCs. PAP will not get the two majority needed. That's is why they are so afraid. The tipping points are outliers that they couldn't foresee before the GE.Now it is clear and very vulnerable.
The other factor that help them was the 90K plus new shitizens who voted for them. I believe, without a shadow of doubt, they will use this strength in future to dilute the swing against them.
Gen Y is the other factor that they will now strongly get engage with in order to contain this swing.
5% more swing would have been good for the last GE,they would have seen "waterloo" all over !!

He should go back to university since he was so good at getting grades there. Not political grades.

Re: "The government have traded too many Faustian bargains in tinkering with the system. It is about time they have to tell themselves that they cannot outsmart the system. simple rules are simply best left as they are."

Singapore's PAP Government cannot "think out of the box." When everything goes well, they do O.K. But then, so can my pet cat and dog.

It is when the unexpected happens that they "gabrah." Think back to the Sentosa Cable Car Incident of the 70's or 80's. More recently, Subprime problem, post Bear Stearns and pre-Lehman Brothers. Made stupid statements like 'Singapore will not be affected.' Most recently, George Yeo thought everybody loved him and he was going to win by a landslide. See what happened?

That is why they are so worried about terrorism. Imagine a a terrorism crime scene. The masses of Keystone Cops arriving on the scene will probably gun down the innocent victims running away from the scene, causing 10 times the number of casualties the terrorists made. Really "blur" and "bodoh." Too good and too easy a life, caused by the 66%. :D
