It is an undeniable fact that heartlanders are the cause of many an opposition party's failure to win parliamentary seats in Singapore. It is also proven through this election that heartlanders' I.Q. are much, much lower than those living in private residence. With the exception of Aljunied, most of the PAP votes came from the heartlanders. In Holland-Bt. Timah GRC , East Coast GRC and Joo Chiat SMC, all opposition votes came from the relatively wealthy voters.

So, in conclusion, the rich and well to do can think while the poor and dumb heartlanders are just brainless even as PAP continue to screw them with great consistency.

The HDB heartlanders of Singapore,Except Hougang SMC and Aljunied GRC,are very balls-less,very self-centred and very ungrateful people.

It is their loss if they do not support the Opposition.

If ever they or their family members got retrenched and replaced by Foreigner Workers,
they should give themselves a pat on their back,Congratulations !

Many of the older folks I know voted PAP out of fear.
They lived so many years under LKY rule that they simply could not get out of their pyschological prison.

Wu yao ke chiu. No medicine can cure these idiots.

Pity those old folks. On voting day, I was on the way to polling station and met an old folk who was also going to vote. He told me thus: "Aiya, got food to eat, got clothes to wear, okay liao".

I simply couldn't believe my ears.

For opposition to make in roads into the "heartlands" these ah peks/ah mah have to go first. 10-20 years time? By then, it would be interesting if the "new citizens" "PRs" would still keep PAP in power.

They are so afraid to venture out of the box they have drawn themselves in, that they are afraid to be struck down by The Thunder gods. Their fears are genuine, but some have shaken off that fear, some hav pass on & slowly be gone; but a memory.

:p

The fate of a nation always lies in the people and not the politicians.

Just look at what has happened. The ruling party lost a few seats and more votes, suddenly they become consultative and empathetic.
If the opposition came into power, can bet you they won't be much better than the pappies. The key is to keep both groups on their toes, such that they always work in the best interests of ordinary citizens.

It should always be the people who hold the power and determine their own futures.

Singapore has never experienced a true, two party democracy. The rich/wealthy have been overseas and can see and know how such a system can work. The older generation/heartlanders which only knows Singapore and occasionally travel overseas for holidays won't know anything about other political system.

This is very disappointing to read. Blaming voters' choice based on their social class (even if a correlation does exist) makes you no better than the Papzi dogs.

I think the main group of PAP supporters are the uncles and aunties in their 60s and the civil servants, they are the beneficiaries of the PAP and will naturally vote for them. The young voters are more rebellious and liberal regardless of social class, form the main group of Alternative Parties supporters.

That is one of the reasons for more MP's from the non-ruling party. I believe that it would be better for the citizens if the ruling party has 60 to 65 per cent of the seats, so that the opposition may vigorously debate the various policies, the budget, new and amending legislation, and mnost importantly, deny the ruling the ruling party the opportunity to amend the Constitution, at its whim and fancy.

Besides the rich / poor gab, we also have
Smart / Stupid Gap
Brave / Coward Gap
