Looks like many Singaporeans are not aware how these things are done. Firstly what she is doing is absolutely legal. Her father Leonard is fully cognizant with these things plus the fact that he is comes from the financial sector.

Her error seems to be that she did not realise that many Singaporeans are not familiar with the rules. She was also naive in having the funds put in her personal account and something that is not kosher with the concept of accountability.

Now the press are getting into it. The PAP raises funds across the board at will, only having to declare to the authorities and no one else. It has a ready register of donors and they are literally movers and shaker in Singapore and the emails go out well before the elections. Nicole Seah is all of 24 years and other than appealing to her friends and family how else does she expect to raise funds other than make a public appeal - maybe go borrow PAP donor register from Lau Ping Sum?

Singaporeans have to realise that funding is absolutely crucial to partake in politics. They expect opposition to perform well in the hustings but grumble over poor logistics and planning not realising that funds are key factor. There is huge correlation between funds and raising a profile.

ps. it will be interesting if the NSP will accept the surplus funds after Nicole covers the expenses for the Marine Parade campaign after GMS stated publicly that he would not follow the Nicole Seah's approach.

Do each of the PAP candidates who campaigned in General Elections solicit funds individually?

Is Nicole Seah appealing for donations primarily to cover her own election campaign expenses?

So she had already worked out the arithmetic of paying the cost of one fifth of all posters printed, the cost to hang them up, the cost of renting rally stages, the cost of electricity to lit up the rally premises....etc.....etc

Father in financial sector? what? financial adviser? Insurance? Know the legal web of political rules and regulations?

People just don't want to remember that shit sticks on the Internet...........FOREVER!.........Just ask Emperor George Yeo!

Dear Scroobal

GMS is the sec gen stuck in the Singapore River and trying to pull the party together. Any opposition party candidate depends on two sources of funding, one party level general funding and candidate/GRC specific funding with an inverse releationship between the two. The problem with the NSP is that the second is very strong due to specific rich individuals funding specific campaigns for their own egos which leaves a very weak primary funding level hence supporters assembling at Lavendar SQ.

We have in essence NSP with rich poorly performing candidates with no discipline and poor well performing candidates ahhh well.

Well said bro. You know the equation. Its about time these rich guys understand that money does not dictate the party politics. Unfortunately not many people are aware of what is going on. For GMS, it must be eye-opening. Jeanette Aruldoss is doing exactly the same having realised similar to Nicole that they will not be cowed by these poorly performing but rich chaps.

I wish people like Alex Au would provide more info about funding to the masses. Then we have the young and the more decent coming forward to partake in politics and even starting their own parties.

It appears that supporters of NSP or Nicotine are willing to condone whatever mistakes or crimes she commits.

A crime is a crime. You can't put your company's revenue into your own personal bank account - it's as simple as ABC. Even lawyers have scooted off with their client's money.

Imagine such people are going to look after million of dollars of Town Council money or billion of dollars national reserves. Trust the opposition to look after your country! 39% of the voters have been conned.

Damn right! Ho Ching should be sacked for gambling our taxpayers' money and making losses.

Are you sure it is a crime or are you committing a crime by defaming her? BTW TPL did commit a crime.

You have placed the issue quite squarely where it belongs: no one puts company revenue into their own personal bank account, no matter the justification - age, sex, level of education, party politics, etc. If they want funds, then put it in their party's account.

Even a 23-year old who is on the University's Scholar Program will know the difference between personal account and corporate account. Let alone a 24-year old.

If the sale of GMS' HDB flat yields insufficient profits to fund the NSP campaign, why didn't the NSP raise funds on behalf of Nicole Seah and other NSP candidates? An appeal by NSP would have the public making donations willingly in view of Nicole's outstanding performance.

Didn't the political leaders in NSP know that they can legally collect money from the public and thus raise the appeal instead of Nicole?

If the rich in NSP are not willing to help the poor in NSP, what makes you think that they will help the poor in Singapore if they become rich Ministers?

The NSP leaders allow things to come to such a distasteful state. They better put it right otherwise Nicole's credibility will be affected.

Finally Nicole's inexperience is showing but it is the responsibility of the NSP leaders to guide and nurture her. Not to leave her in a lurch.

That is definitely the NSP leadership's fault. It gives opportunity to PAP dogs to attack her, some of whom are already doing so in this thread. C'mon she's a 24 year old dragged into politics, lets not just talk but send in your $100 !

(1) she was dragged into politics?
- GMS can't even convince her to stand in Tampines. He cannot even drag her into Tampines. She said that she choose to be in MP GRC because she lived there. That does not sound like someone who is coerced into politics.

(2) send in your money to Nicole's personal account or NSP account? That is the issue, in case you missed it. If she raised funds for NSP's post election expenses, it will be to her credit in the eyes of many.

Many do not realise that Banks do not allow one to open a company or society account unless it is formally setup. That would take ages. It is also difficult to send it to NSP common account as people are prepared to donate to the Marine Parade Team and Nicole in particular but not for the poorly performing other NSP candidates. I am sure they will be prepared by it.

I am just disappointed that people do not realise that she is doing what is legal. I wish they adopted your positive attitude.

hahaha...of course what she is doing is legal....there was already a precedent recently by you know who.

Moral issue - not so correct and not so smart to do so.
Party issue - NSP can close shop if the party thinks that it has no responsibilities to help its members or
in this case, left NS to her own and taking the attitude "she dies her business".

Saving grace ---- i understand that NS started a new account just for this donation exercise.
In this case it will be easy to audit.
She also said she will close the account immediately when the target is reached and used the excess money
for some community social works.
GMS or NS should made the points above clear as it appears to be missed out by all the forummers here.

Good...good
You are not that Kuku after all:D

If you had followed the GE close enough, you would have known she lives in Tampines. And yes, she is old enough to sign a legal contract, old enough to have a baby if she choose to.

I had said it, I say it again. Bad move!

And when this thing turn to shit and hit the fan, guess how the Indian TS will change the lyrics, the tune and the whole fucking language of the song?

I'm glad she believes in doing what she think is right and not what others think is wrong. In spite of the hullabaloo in the media especially the mainstream prostitutes she remains unfazed. This lady has got character. Kudos to her.

Despite what NS did to use a personal account to deposit donations to her and her party, I believe she is by far more forthright and upfront than say, Temasek Holdings, GIC, CPF, HDB, Tampines Town Council and many others. And we're talking about a microscopic fraction of what these entities are not sharing with us.

The person who started the baseless shit to smear Nicole Seah seems to be a journalist named Ke Xin Ying. This is the worse form of character assasination. This Ke Xin Ying is no saint herself as someone has reported that she has a kinky way of stimulating herself sexually when she rides on the MRT.

Its only a crime if she cannot account properly for the funds. She has already stated that the funds are placed in her accounts solely for verification of the origin as political parties are not allowed to receive funding of dubious origins. Its very easy to sabo a political party with just one such dubious transaction, hence, Nicole is only putting herself in as a buffer against such things.

Dear Scroo

Many do not realize that Nicole has no control over the main NSP accounts or for that matter Jeanette and or GMS. They both make personal appeals because the money donated to a party account might get taxed or not get transferred.

It would have been easier if the funds flowed from the public to the NSP main account to the Nicole Personal Fund and Team account. However there seems to be a lack of trust on all sides with regards to funds and control of funds.

You guys are barking up the wrong tree. Let me offer you some help from the "other side".

It's not an issue of control over the NSP accounts. NS asked for cheques to be made in NSP's name and sent to her. That is because she can easily identify who donated to her campaign. However, for bank transfers and cash deposits, there is no way (or she's worried about confusion) about what the money was intended for. So she asked for the money to be deposited into her account which she would then deposit into NSP's account.
