Newspapers still relevant
By Rachel Lin
PUNDITS have predicted the end of print journalism, but Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong believes newspapers can still stay relevant.
To do so, local newspapers will have to build on the relationship of trust that they have with their readers and to keep their finger on the Singapore pulse.
However, they have to be wary of young journalists who tend to be 'somewhat intellectual at times'.
'Editors and senior journalists will have to actively guide them and ensure that their idealism is not misplaced, while ensuring that their passion for journalism is sustained,' he said.
Mr Goh was speaking at MediaCorp freesheet Today's 10th anniversary celebrations last night, which was attended by 280 government officials, diplomats and business partners.
He outlined the gloomy prospects newspapers face and how they can stay relevant.
