Well, if you know me, u know I am no PAP supporter, however what Helicopview says has some merit. Trust me, there are a lot worse MPS out there than him. He is a pretty decent chap, no airs, and very involved and helpful in church. If you go to church and see him and say hi, he is not going to ignore you. However, there is pros and cons with this guy.

Pros:
He is not a fake minister/MP, who got his position by patronage to Lee or one of those instant noodle BGs that became politician. He is a Chok Tong man, as opposed to a Gay Loong man. That alone is bonus points in my books. He earn a Colombo Plan scholarship, as opposed to por lumpars that were given President/SAF scholarships, etc, and groomed from the outset for political office. His father had a small farm in Punggol, so is a kampong boy. That is another aspect that I can identify with. He rose to high level in NOL, after starting out there as a naval architect, right after uni. This was his only employer for his civilian life. It was Wooden that asked him to enter politics. So, I can see why people say hie is humble. From farm boy, won a prestigious international scholarship, graduated from UK, join NOL, and a rising star there.

I daresay if he had stayed with NOL, his salary might have been more than what he is getting now. He is a proven performer. The same cannot be said of Teo, gay Loong, WKS, etc. All these clowns would have been unemployed if not for nepotism or patronage.

The Cons:
Well, he is a card carrying PAP guy thru and thru. He is the chairman of the CEC, u can't really get much higher than that unless u are sec -gen. Being a staunch catholic, I am sure that he knows he sold his soul to the devil for money. A man with a real conscience cannot turn his eyes await at the shit that the Lees pull in singapore. All his assignments in the govt. service has resulted in abject failure.

- Chairman for the committee on aging- are you kidding, the old people are worse off now than back then. What ever this shit committee did for the old folks have not been translated into any action at all ont heir behalf.
- NTUC, various posts - yet another weak and feeble attempt to help the working people in SIngapore, they are under siege by cheap labour from foreign countries brought in by his govt. Is he the lone voice in the wilderness? Was he standing up for the native singaporean? Who knows, probably not.
