SINGAPORE: Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said it is important for political parties to have a diversified team to prepare for the next generation of leadership. This means fielding both young and older candidates.

Mr Khaw said this on the sidelines of a contract-signing ceremony for three new health facilities, in response to questions on the string of criticisms by netizens on the ruling party's new candidate, Ms Tin Pei Ling.

He said the younger candidates like 27-year-old business consultant Ms Tin and 33-year-old lawyer Vikram Nair will always be less experienced than the older ones.

However, their abilities should not just be based on their age.

Mr Khaw said: "I think it would be wrong of us to be ageists, either against old or young. But I think, look at the candidates in their own right...every age group ought to be represented.

"So I think judge them based on what you think they can do for you and I believe Pei Ling and Vikram and some other new candidates who will be announced over the next few weeks can do those jobs extremely well."

As for the online attacks made against the candidates, Mr Khaw believes Singaporeans are mature enough to tell the difference between truth and lies.

Since Ms Tin was introduced on Monday, she has been the subject of media attention, while the Internet has been abuzz with talk about her suitability as a candidate and personal life.

No lah, a young girl like her will cry quietly in the bathroom, away from media, and than cum out strong again to screw you. This kind of materials can easily found in many small companies. Besides, Goh Chok Tong will be getting some paper tiger Generals to protect and pamper her like a princess so that she will keep saying "AYE! Wonder how many wooden knockers did he knock after saying that 'tooth' about the $8 operation....what a joke! $8, who desn't know his rank & position in society and the AFFORDADBILITY of insurance premiums & the 'gilt-edged' medisave account for a person earning that obscene salary...peasant with just like us with meagre salaries and whatever Medisave...won't be able to pay for a heart operation at $8..that is the hard truth.... Got to wait and see. For all we know TPL really cannot be bothered. But you are right in that they will never withdraw her, even if she herself wants to withdraw they will convince her otherwise.

it was a right move to put her as MP and in GRC.

1: In GRC she unlikely to loose.

2: her appearance has attracted much publicity and less energy were spent
on the REAL issues.

At the end of it , this episode would have done a great deal for taking the heat away ....perhap that was the goal and is falling in place as planned.

Lies or no lies , time will tell. One thing for sure, all eyes on her from now on whether in public or private . Let see whether it was all NATO .

More energy on solving REAL problems please and stop wasting your breath on a newbie private life and background....much like energy spent by a male MP who criticizes another female MP for spending $ on her hair-do. How helpful indeed.
