2% of PRs' re-entry permit applications turned down yearly

EVERY year for the past three years, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority has rejected about 2 per cent of re-entry permit applications from permanent residents (PRs).

This was revealed yesterday in a written answer from Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam, in response to a question from Nominated Member of Parliament Audrey Wong on the number of PRs who could not renew their re-entry permits.

PRs are required to have a valid re-entry permit if they wish to travel out of Singapore, so they can retain their PR status while away from the country.

They are required to renew the re-entry permit on a periodic basis.

Mr Shanmugam said reasons for rejection included an applicant's prolonged absence from Singapore, lack of gainful employment at the time of a renewal application or lack of family roots in Singapore.

For PRs who are dependents such as spouses or elderly parents, the loss of the PR status of their sponsor would also result in a rejection.

Wow .... what a tremendous achievement .... I am so proud until I could cry ...

That should not surprise anyone. Refusal of re-entry permit is something like revocation of PR. Naturally very few PR will be revoked once they are given.

The interesting fig should be how many new PR are approved, or how many new applications are rejected.

once i got got the train, i saw a group of secondary girls speaking in korean. in my mind i was thinking maybe they took 3rd language and speaking it to practice with one another. it was then one of them open their mouth to speak in english i realised they are really korean. fuck and they are in neighbourhood secondary school. even in sec school we get to see foreigners invading our land, seriously what the value in defending this place which does not even feels like home.

i am seeing more and more of this as the days goes by. there is no pride in being a singaporean

Treat this place like a hotel. Make plans to move elsewhere at the right time taking into consideration family needs etc.

wait till one day when you enrolled your kids to school, and you realised majority of the kids surrounding your child are speaking in their own native language which your kid don't understand. you call this place your home?

at the current rate, such a scene will come true in merely 10 years time
