2 senior staff quit SMRT

SINGAPORE - The SMRT Corporation has been hit by the resignations of its No 2 and a long-serving employee.

Today has learnt that SMRT deputy president and chief operating officer Yeo Meng Hin, 46, has quit the country's main subway operator to spend more time with his family.

Also leaving the SMRT is its finance head for the last 10 years, senior vice-president Catherine Kuan Lee-Yee Fong.

After having served the SMRT for nearly 24 years, Mrs Kuan, 58, decided to call it a day to pursue her own interests. Her last day at work will be on Feb 1.

The listed transport giant hopes to re-engage Mr Yeo, who tendered his resignation a week ago, on a consultancy basis.

His last day of service will be April 20.

Said an SMRT spokesman: "We are trying to work out an arrangement that will allow him to spend the time he needs with his family, which includes quite a bit of travel overseas."

In 2003, Mr Yeo, had followed his boss Saw Phaik Hwa from duty-free retail chain DFS Venture Singapore to join SMRT after the latter was appointed as the tranport operator's president and chief executive officer.

At the SMRT, Mr Yeo was responsible for the train and bus business units, including safety, security and emergency planning, organisation development as well as business development.

You don't need to have skills or merit to work in Singapore high-end jobs, just connections.

I scoffed when I heard ministers needed high-pay because they are "smart". Obvious that 80% of these ministers are there because they are connected to the Lees or good at licking Old Fuck's boots. Apparently, only in SG, the CEO of a shipping company (NOL) or press company (SPH) does not need to have the necessary skill knowledge. Just sit there and shake leg.

You mean sit there, pcc then shake leg?

In high end jobs, all u really need to soar is to be a yes man to the one who appointed u!
Yes man not enough, must have connections. :D
Or else at best you end up at a managerial level in a government agency.
Why allow yourself to be stuck there when you can be a CEO of SMRT, NOL or Keppel? :D

Hire a man with retail sales experience to consult what?!

It's about acquisition expertise .
Instead of operationally top grades and efficiency .

Able to get parts at best pricing and repair done at a lower cost is effectiveness itself .
If the balance sheet look good . It's good enough .
