Why PAP has a say when to have election

This should be done by a third party who acts like a judge and not by a party.

This is based on the OLD Westminster system whereby the sitting government advises the sovereign (President) when to dissolve parliament and call polls. This system is in place in most Commonwealth countries.

After the last GE in the UK, the Lib-Dems demanded a change of rules to fixed parliamentary terms (unless there is a no confidence vote of course) as a condition for supporting the Tories in their coalition.

So like hanging and caning, we are continuing with something the country of origin has abandoned.

It is common does not mean it is not being abused. This sort of fresh election timing should be handle by a third party or should be set a fixed date several years in advance. This is to maintain fairness and prevent any one expecially sinkies to abuse it.

The UK are changing its rule due to its corruption tendencies, especially sinkies.
