One thing we have to concede is that despite everything, he remains one of the most respected politicians in the world.

MM Lee is quite candid about the possibility of political upheaval and change in the future.

Notice how he hints of a possibility of a split within the PAP. I think if a split comes it will come from the GCT faction.

Notice he has also reiterated that a new govt will face certain roadblocks that the PAP has put in the way beforehand. Of course he does not call them roadblocks, he called them "safeguards" like the Elected presidency.

But we all know these are designed to be roadblocks should PAP be voted out of power one day.

Notice also how he admits that it is OK to punish the poor and lose their votes, as long as they think they can win votes from middle and upper classes.
