Of the perennial mismatch between lower-educated men and better-educated women who are single, sociologist and Nominated MP Paulin Straughan noted that Singapore continues to be governed by 'strong notions of patriarchy that say that men should be the leader'.
However, she sees a glimmer of hope.
'Moving forward, I don't think we will be stuck in this situation forever.'
The reason is that Singapore society has levelled up in terms of education.
'For the next generation of younger male Singaporeans, they will be able to achieve at least secondary education,' she said.

very misleading...
article started off as saying one in three residents (and the report further say - its not in this report but reported in the news ) 43% of males from 30 - 39 is single.
So, one in three jokers with a dick (me included) staying in Singapore is single which could be bangla, FTs or ang mohs...including Singaporeans with pink IC....
wow..thats very generally speaking isn't it. Why then digress to Singaporeans? And it seem to blame Singaporeans for something caused by the influx of large number foreigners (statistics skewed)?
PAP cooking the figure again.
they got their highly educated ivy league graduate to pimp up the figure again.
like the 14% economic growth last year.

Among all ethnic groups, the Chinese have the highest proportion of singles.
For instance, 17.5 per cent of Chinese women aged 40 to 44 are single - more than double the 8.2 per cent among Malay women.
u go legends palace ... evry month dey oso got new n different figures ...What else is new ??:(
I am no sociologist. But I think what Paulin says does not make sense.
Problem is that we Asian thinking is that "man to marry down and woman marry up".
So increase the general education level just mean that bring the whole curve up. Eventually, the lower end of the males (who will then have secondary education), will still not find a wife. Cos most women will be secondary educated and they want to marry up!
Solution is to either bring in more FT women (i like), or just the education proportion change, say 60% of undergraduate are man and 40% woman!!
