Former Immigration Department deputy director general Yusof Abu Bakar, 56, was jailed for a total of 56 years and fined RM620,000 by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on 14 counts of accepting bribes totaling RM121,500 two years ago.

he should have millions in his overseas accounts. every truck comming out of JB customs HAVE to put RM2.00 in the passport in order to have a trouble free clearance. How many trucks and lorries headed to singapore in any given day. Such blantant bribery at rank and file level, then for ppl like him to sit at the top will have a much bigger chunk of the cake.
 
6 years sentence only, not 56 !!!

Bekas Timbalan Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Imigresen Yusof Abu Bakar, 56, hari ini dijatuhi hukuman penjara enam tahun dan denda RM620,000 oleh Mahkamah Sesyen Kuala Lumpur.

Beliau didapati bersalah terhadap 14 tuduhan menerima rasuah berjumlah RM121,500 pada 2008.

Hakim Abu Bakar Katar menjatuhkan hukuman itu selepas mendapati pihak pembelaan gagal menimbulkan keraguan munasabah terhadap tertuduh.

Pada 14 Okt 2008, Yusof didakwa menerima rasuah berjumlah antara RM500 dan RM18,500 pada setiap transaksi daripada seorang pengurus jualan antara 21 Mac dan 25 Jun 2008.

Menurut kertas pertuduhan, Yusof didakwa melakukan kesalahan itu di pejabat beliau bertugas di Bahagian Kawalan Aras 7, Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, Blok 2G4, Presint 2, Putrajaya; di Federal Hotel, Jalan Bukit Bintang; dan di Stesen Minyak Caltex, Jalan Pudu.

Semua pertuduhan itu mengikut Seksyen 11 (a) Akta Pencegahan Rasuah 1997 dan dihukum menurut Seksyen 16 Akta yang sama.

He's just a poor corrupt offical from the 3rd world. I'm sure he would rather work in Spore a an "honest" gov't official where the perks are better :rolleyes:
