SURPRISE FIRE SAFETY CHECKS
Shopping malls fined

SHOPPING mall managers and club owners had some visitors this holiday season who were not there to shop, or have a tipple or two.

Last Friday night, two teams of officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paid impromptu visits to 13 local businesses to check whether they had violated fire safety regulations.

The officers mainly looked out for fire exit obstructions and poorly maintained firefighting equipment.

The media, which was invited along, was told the checks were not meant to shame violators.

'Our goal is not to punish, but to create awareness,' said Major Azmi Adam, who led the raids.

'The public go to these outlets during the holiday, so we want to remind businesses that fire safety is important.'

Have the SCDF gotten their bonuses yet:confused:

They are doing a FINE job of looking after our safety & should be thankful for thro good work.

Bonus by now should have been credited to their bank accounts, for the benefit of their masters, it will be a FINE season.

:D

Glad that things have changed :D

ZOUKOUT 2010
ZoukOut 'molester' arrested

-- ST PHOTO

A 21-YEAR-OLD foreigner was arrested for molesting someone early on Sunday morning at ZoukOut, the annual dance party on Sentosa, which attracted an estimated 30,000 revellers.

A 23-year-old party-goer who did not want to be named said she saw the man being taken away, and that he did not look drunk.

Organised by Zouk, this outdoor music festival saw some 30,000 partygoers descend on Siloso Beach at Sentosa.

For 12 hours, starting from 8pm, partygoers danced through the night as famous DJs like Tiesto and David Guetta played their songs.

We used to give them $10, when they come collecting the rubbish outside the house gates, as a token of appreciation, or else, you find your dustbin just thrown on the road, after the rubbish had been emptied.

The postman gets one too....in the past, you can address me a letter;

XXXX XXX
anystreet, no house number
Singapore xxxxxx

post code correct, the letter gets delivered, even registered, parcel etc... nowadays, where you get this service.. a little 'gaunxi' can do wonders....:D

Singapore is falsely impressed to be SAFE, when it is indeed full of HIDDEN DANGER. People got fooled and hoodwinked by Wayang PAP who claimed their island city masterpiece to be a perfection. Pui!

You're right in those days you did get "service" in return. :)

The postman in those days had to deliver mail twice a day & they only had a bicycle:eek:

Nowadays "corruption free" simply means the fat cats at the top get most of the gravy. Regular increases have become the norm & seen as entitlements.

In the private sector we all quietly do our jobs to avoid the sack. However the gov't has to wayang to show they deserve their bonuses

I could still hear the low pitch, 'kling, kling' of the bicyle bell as the postman approaches the house & we know most of the postmen that delivered the mail plus the post master; they all lived behind the post office. Later years the Raleigh Bicycles gave way to scooters with the box...where you can hear it coming, even before they reaches you!
It is not a case of corruption with that $10 or less for the new year, or Christmas or....it was appreciating service, even to the garbageman who clears the rubbish on time, & cleanly without leaving a rubbish trail, or your bin can be found, three or four doors away...ha ha ha ha

That goes for the meter reader ( the same guy, each month, each year),or the kebun that come & tend for the garden.....it was a 'service appreciation'...

Like you say...today only the fat cats at the top gets the 'SERVICE APPRECIATION'....:D

The kebun, another occupation from years past. I learned to ride a bicycle on "the kebuns" bicycle :)

Nowadays the maid has become car washer, gardener, baby sitter, cook, cleaner, parent sitter, dog walker,...., punching bag :o

Some families even have more than 1 maid. I think Spore society would collapse if all the maids balek kampong. I would say that they are more essential to Spore than the PAP :D

I played with the kebun, roller blades grass cutter, not the rcent ones that run on power..if that kebun is still around today, who sure be stopped for his assortments of blades including his trusty parang... ha ha ha

The maid is also the bag carrier for the children, for the 'mum' when going to supermarket, or the grandma of the house..without maids, most SINgapore families will collapse..;)

I heard about them but my neighbourhood had indoor plumbing :)

We had indoor plumbings, the other side had night soil carriers...the 64 doors, was it or 32 doors? I forgot...the night soil carriers gets their 'service rewards' also...:D

I haven't seen those manual mowers in decades  Wonder if people like LKY still have one in their garage :)

I tried pushing those manual grass mowers & found it difficult. We had a manual & a petrol driven one, but the kebun preferred the simpler manual unit.

Sporeans seem to under appreciate their maids. Years from now it's going to be harder to find maids willing to come to Spore. It'll be as critical as the M'sia/Spore water agreement expriring :D

The PAPpies may be talking from their rear ends but have you been to places such as New York and London? Even peaceful Stockholm also kanna bombed recently. Singapore may not be an utopia but it is certainly one of the safest cities in the world.

I missed the manual lawn mower's, the ones with the blades I will sharpen with the sandtsone every year, & mow the grass, after the kebun was no longer needed. Went back to look for it some years back & was told it was given away to the garang guni man...hmmm

The manual one is still safer unless you put your fingers in & no need for SCDF inspection also...ha ha ha ha :D

Another Spore is better fairy tale:rolleyes:
Yes I have been to NY, London,.... & you don't need to have visited those places to know how screwed up Spore is:mad:

There are hundred and hundreds of thousands of citizens from the 3rd world in Spore. Half the population are foreigners

Other than the diseases like malaria, TB, HIV,.... I bet there have been alot of crimes committed by foreigners that goes unreported in the local media. As for the crimes that have been reported by the media, I suspect the majority have had the facts massaged to hide the origin of the culprits.

Just look at our population makeup. You'll find lots of grey hair in there, hardly the criminal type. Sporeans understand the justice system here & what it means to have a criminal record. Whereas a foreigner can just go back & return with a new identity.

The difference in NY & London is that the immigrants there have a future, a shot at the american/british dream. They probably make more than your average Sporean

I'm sure many Sporeans would want to keep many of their treasure old things.
I had a large comic book collection which I would have liked to have kept:)

Space in Spore is at a premium & we have to discard the 'old" things :(
