Man hit alleged flasher with hammer
A MAN who hit an Indian national on the head with a hammer for allegedly exposing himself to his girlfriend was yesterday sentenced to six weeks in jail.
Leo Kim Swee, 41, got angry after his Filipino girlfriend, Ms Nancy Ambrose Villarico, 25, told him that a man had flashed her while she was waiting for Leo outside his home on June 24.
He picked up a small hammer from his Pasir Panjang Road home and told his girlfriend to follow him to look for the man. They rode off on his motorbike and spotted Mr Chandran Moorthi, 24, talking to a Gurkha officer outside Currency House at about 3.45am. After dismounting, Leo walked towards Mr Moorthi and told the officer to stop him from leaving. When the victim began to walk away, Leo gave chase and eventually caught up with him, hitting him twice on the head with the hammer.
Leo admitted to causing hurt with a dangerous weapon. Yesterday, District Judge John Ng told Leo that he had more than enough time to call the police. Hitting the victim on the head was a very serious matter, he added. Mr Moorthi's injury was not too serious, and he was treated as an outpatient.
Leo could have been jailed for up to seven years, fined, caned or any combination of the three.
