Seven hospitalised after fights

Six teenagers and an adult, aged between 14 and 20, were taken to hospital after they were involved in two clashes in Bukit Panjang on Monday night. One of them, a 20-year-old man, was seriously injured and remains warded. The other six have been discharged.
Police said the assault on the 20-year-old man took place at about 10pm at Block 418, Fajar Road. The six others were injured after they were attacked shortly after, near a basketball court at Jelapang Road - some 400m from the scene of the earlier clash.
According to Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao, the attackers were carrying choppers and the clashes involved more than 20 youth. At the scene, there were puddles of blood.
The police are investigating. According to residents who spoke to MediaCorp, the group of attackers were said to be yelling gang slogans, such as "3-6-9" - a gang affiliation. They added that, for the past two months, a group of youngsters had been making a din at night, at times up to 4 in the morning.
The latest clashes come about a week after Republic Polytechnic student Darren Ng, 19, was hacked at Downtown East. Four suspects have been charged with his murder. ALVINA SOH
