WOMEN'S CHARTER
Men need protection too

I REFER to the reports ('Making defaulters pay', Nov 1; and 'Judge throws out 'secret wife' case', Oct 27). The Women's Charter rightfully accords protection to women against irresponsible men and ensures financial support for them and their children after a divorce.

But what if a woman deceitfully enters into a marriage with a hidden agenda. Is there any legal recourse for the husband concerned to protect himself?

There are women who do not take the marriage vows seriously, but see it as a legitimate means to circumvent immigration rules to gain residency status or as a quick way to escape poverty. With more Singaporean men marrying foreign wives, cases of abuse of this nature will rise.

Women who are out to exploit the marriage process may, after a few years of matrimonial life, either initiate a divorce or behave unreasonably so that their husbands would have little choice but to opt for a divorce.

Under such circumstances, through no fault of theirs, ex-husbands will be required by law to continue to maintain their ex-wives and divide matrimonial assets.

The Women's Charter, in its current form, does not distinguish between women who faithfully carried out their roles as wives/mothers and those who entered into a marriage with the wrong intent and abused the marriage system for their selfish gains.

Unless appropriate provisions to deal with such abuses are added to the Women's Charter, they will become more prevalent. We need to send out a strong signal to all that marriages have to be taken seriously as a long-term commitment and not be exploited for one's short-term, selfish gains.

The most stupid thing is this charter is written by men and lawmakers are majority also men. These lopsided idiots only had pussies in their minds.

hi there

1. these pricks are hidden in puss mah!
2. male sheep are lost herd here.

Singapore Men are know to be wimps and often led on by their wives. This can be seen from the top leaders to the lowest cleaner.

Just look around your male friends, how many are not afraid of their wives? Those who are not probably ended up in divorce. Many follow their wives wherever they go, carry their handbags and drive them around like chauffeur and still kenna fuck by the wife in public. Give yourself some respect guys!

Many goes to their in-laws house more often then his own parents, just because the wife do not like her parents-in-laws. Many also stay closer to the wife's parents than their own. The amount of money he gives to his own parents is determined by his wife. Some men even distance himself from his friends of many years just because of the wife. I have known army fellows who command thousands but is a 'Yes' man at home.

Although many men claimed that they make decision on most of the things in the family, but in actual fact. Those are the nitty gritty stuff. The wife only make a few decision but those are the important ones.

Singapore men, have you lost your self respect when you're in the army doing your NS?

Are you sure it is written by men? It does not make any difference if it is made up of mainly men or not. Most important is whether they are influenced by their women to implement this?

There is alot of Spore men who choose to remain single or look outside Spore for wives. Divorce rates is very high for those who choose marriage :(

What man wants a wife who only looks at him for his 6Cs  Eventually all women age & the girls become hags :)

I think it quite hard to prove what ever circumstances leading to divorce. It tricky. It word against word.

Singapore should allow pre-nup agreement. I think it time. Since it hard, messy and expensive, i think PRE NUP agreement will do just fine.

Follow what ever it is being said in the agreement. So woman cannot make false claim and hope that man will not be caught cheating.

The bill became law in 1961, a time where the legislative assembly is made up of men, who then do you think wrote the charter though there's no denying the old fart's wife had a hand in it.

It will make one hell lot of difference if those men sees and had the decency to challenge the lopsidedness in the process of writing it.

Even till today where amendments are made men are still having pussies in their minds and not seeing men are very much disadvantaged.
