AN INVESTIGATION into how and why a technician who was carrying out maintenance works on the tracks of a Light Rapid Transit station was hit by a train, is underway.

Mr Chia Teck Heng was on the tracks of Ten Mile Junction LRT station doing some maintenance works, when he was hit by an oncoming train last Sunday.

The impact of the crash left him with head and leg injuries, and also resulted in his right leg being amputated.

Train operator SMRT said investigations on the incident are ongoing.

The Straits Times understands that part of the investigations include whether any safety rules were flouted, resulting in the accident.

SMRT said it has in place strict regulations for granting staff access to the tracks to do any kind of works.

THe maintenance only should carry out after all stop operation. Must have at least 4 person. One act ask a look out man.
If they follow SOP the accident will not happen. Sue the LRT for lifetime support.pay for life. Sack the management involve manager/supervisor.
If all follow SOP then sack and sue the SOP writer/management becase never protect the worker.

it's quite ironical, on one hand, they always ask passengers taking MRT to beware of terrorists and take care of safety. On the other, such accident happen to their own staff. Think about it, my guess is that the staff in SMRT are getting complacent,slacking and cause this to happen. I genuinely hope that the media will let us know what really went wrong?

1st off he is not a tech he is an engineer I heard and 2 heard from a friend still working in mrt he up lorry already.
