Temasek Review renamed
By Rachel Chang
http://www.temasekreview.com/
TEMASEK Review, the stridently anti-government socio-political website that was asked last week by Temasek Holdings to change its name, has done so.
The name that appeared on its masthead on Wednesday, five days after the request from Temasek Holdings: New Temasek Review.
No reason was given for the choice of the new name. Temasek Holdings' spokesman also declined to comment when contacted on Wednesday night.
Temasek Holdings issued a letter via the media last Friday asking the website to change its name, arguing that 'Temasek Review' was a term 'indisputably associated' with the investment company and that the website was just trying to capitalise on the goodwill and reputation linked to it.
The same letter was also sent to a Dr Joseph Ong, a general practitioner whom The New Paper reported as being a founder of the website. Dr Ong, however, told The Straits Times last Friday that while he had been involved with the website from about three years ago, he had stopped last year.
The website also stated in a post that appeared on Saturday: 'He (Dr Ong) is not in a position to receive any notices or communication on our behalf. Our official email address and webform is the only acceptable means of communication with us.'
In the same post, signed by one 'Amanda Tan', it asked Temasek Holdings if the latter claimed 'exclusive rights to the word 'Temasek' around the world'. It also wanted to know if it was taking issue only with the site name, or with both the site name and the domain name, and if Temasek Holdings intended to acquire the domain name from the current owners.
Queries sent by this newspaper to the website have consistently gone unanswered. A footnote on the webpage says: 'We will NOT entertain any request for email interview or follow up from journalist from Singapore Press Holdings but welcome all other journalist from around the world.'
