$104 to $387 millions is not 3 times, but 3.7 times (almost 4 times)

Adding that he was giving an explanation and not "an excuse", he said: "We didn't think at that point in time that we were going to host a Games which was at world standard with world-class timing systems and information systems."

This minister is getting very annoying. The thinks Singaporeans are naive and fools. His original plan is to host the olympics NOT at world class standard? What are they thinking?

And they expect to ask volunteers to use a stop watch to time the 100m finals? What rubbish explaination is that!?

$97 million: Technology
i dont think there were much technology involved for the events, many equipment used were quite primitive.

$76 million: Upgrading of sports venues and equipment
most of the venues didnt seem at all upgraded, the indoor events at suntec & the scape park tent shelters were make shift, and quickly disposed after the closure of the games.

$45.5 million: Live broadcast plus staging of opening and closing ceremonies
since when did broadcasting rights & sponsorship become the citizen's problem?

$7 million: Journey of Youth Olympic Flame across the globe, starting in Greece
i believe it would've cost much lesser to repaint a C130 from the SAF, than to charter some lame private jet

$44 million: Logistics
i reckon this encompasses lodging, transport & food. NTU hostel so expensive? dogfood so expensive? transport so expensive?

$18 million: Security
never knew that under-qualified auxiliary police & volunteers cost so much

$14.3 million: Operational requirements
so, there's costs incurred to qualify operations?

$5.4 million: Culture and Education Programme
never knew that students works & volunteer induction symposiums cost so much too.

$79.8 million: Miscellaneous costs such as medical services and training of volunteers
very convenient to lump everything unaccountable as misc. since when did petty cash amount to be more than any other operational costs??

in the private sector, regardless of any position one holds in the company. should he/she fail drastically in the budgeting for any marketing/ promotional/ operational campaign, resulting in the company having to bleed $ so to keep the campaign alive, is certain of 1 thing: DISMISSAL

in the private sector, when the executive officers & financial officers fail to scrutinize & evaluate any form of expenses before approval of plans implementation, resulting in the company incurring costs over & above initial budget presented, is certain of 1 thing: DISMISSAL

in sg civil sector, DISMISSAL is not in the dictionary
