Three youths arrested for suspected theft from hawker stalls

SINGAPORE: Three youths, aged 13 to 19, have been arrested in connection with a series of thefts at hawker stalls.

The affected stalls were at Tanglin Halt, Holland Drive and Ghim Moh Road and the theft is said to have occurred between August 12 and September 6.

Items stolen included cash and cigarettes worth about $1,500.

Two suspects were arrested in Holland Avenue this morning while the other suspect was arrested in Bedok South.

The suspects are believed to have been involved in at least five other such cases.

They are expected to be charged in court today.

If convicted, they face a maximum jail term of three years, a fine, or both. - CNA/fa

The solution to solving the problem of juvenile criminals, is to punish and shame the parents. Fine the parents heavily and put them in jail if necessary.
I guarantee the crime rate by juveniles will reduce by at least half.

Sometimes teens' "crimes" are a rebellion against their parents - for reasons only they know. So why punish the parents twice?

Having said this, if the nature of the crime isn't "juvenile" - that is, if it took planning, coordination, initimidation, distraction, etc. - then it may not necesarry be a "juvenile" action; some adults are incapable of that level of sophistication.

On a case-by-case basis, some kids should not be judged as kids. With many households these days having both parents at work, parents are stretched to their ends' balancing family and work to provide the basics. It is not good to put further pressure on the working class. Society is breaking and more punishment will not make it easier.
