SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has sent his condolences to the people of Christchurch hit by an earthquake.
In a message to his New Zealand counterpart John Key, Mr Lee said he is saddened to learn of the terrible destruction caused by the disaster.
He is confident that under Mr Key's leadership, the reconstruction efforts will be swift and the city will return to normalcy before long.
Christchurch was hit by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake before dawn on Saturday.
No death has been reported.
