FOR Dato K C Tan, it was the sweetest win-win situation.

His mare won the Emirates Singapore Derby and his filly won for best-dressed.

Dr Tan is the renowned liver surgeon, and his horse Jolie's Shinju streaked ahead from start to finish to grab the million-dollar prize money at the Singapore Turf Club's annual fixture. It was the 14th Emirates-STC partnership.

The doctor's partner, Miss Jaylian See, bagged the Best Dressed To The Races contest prize in her Issey Miyake, an outfit she could easily trot out again for the Emirates Melbourne Cup in November. Her prize - two business class tickets to Melbourne.

Giving back

Over lunch, the lively Miss See said: 'Bet on Jolie's Shinju, she's the only mare in the race (race 11), if she wins we'll donate $100,000 to ComChest, one must, because if it's money won, you must give back.'

The Dato doctor owns Hippocrates stables, some 45 horses, mostly Japan bloodstock.
