Singaporeans want greater say when it comes to political activities like policy making as compared to ten years ago.
According to a study done by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) last year, Singaporeans expressed the need for the government to take time to listen to them - even when the Government needs to make quick decisions.
This desire for consultation increased 24 per cent in the current 2009 study.
Also, those in the younger age groups expressed a need for more channels for political expression other than the ballot box.
However, in practice, not many more actually proceeded to express their views on public policy issues to the Government, indicated by a drop of 6 per cent in the current study.
The study was compiled from face-to-face interviews with 2016 Singapore citizens residing in Singapore, aged 21 to 64 years from February to May 2009.
