I realized that in the past, most of East Asia was ruled by many strongmen and not much democracy exists in these countries . Examples will be:
Lee Kuan Yew - Singapore
Mahatir (Mad Hatter) - Malaysia
Suharto - Indonesia
Ferdinand Marcos - Philippines
Pol Pot - Cambodia
Park Chun Hee - South Korea (Republic of Korea)
Chiang Kai Shek - Taiwan (Republic of China)
Chairman Mao Zedong - China (People's Republic of China)
Military coups - Thailand
Junta - Myanmar
Taiwan introduced democracy only in 1987 and for South Korea, also in 1987.
Oddly enough, Japan is the only country that of post-1945, is fully democratic and there were no strongmen in Japan. But yet, it is the most developed East Asian country, though PRC will be catching up soon.
