STOMPer Vassili thinks that girls from China should not be lured by promises of a good life by wealthy men in Singapore, after watching a video about the tragedy of Li Hong Yan, the late karaoke lounge singer who was found dead in a Sentosa bungalow pool on March 24.
Said the STOMPer:
"I watched the touching video slide made by photojournalist Neo Xiaobin about the tragedy that had befallen the late karaoke lounge singer from China, Li Hong Yan, 24, whose naked body was found floating in Sentosa bungalow pool on March 24.
"The bungalow in which the deceased spent the night in belonged to Mr Adrian Chua Boon Chye, 39, the CEO of a real estate management firm, whom she had met the night before in a nightclub.
"To me, this is a typical story of how young, pretty and naive girls from China, hoping to find easy money in Singapore, get lured by wealthy businessmen.
"They think that the roads in Singapore are paved in gold and that money falls from the sky once they come here.
"But that's not always the case, as the tragedy of Li Hong Yan tells us.
"If you're young, pretty and naive, those with money just want you for your body.
"Sure, they will entice you with cash and jewellery initially, and promise you the heavens.
"But there are hundreds other girls out there who are prettier than you and who want money too, so once these rich guys get tired of you, they will move on to the next pretty face.
"Although I feel sorry for the victim and her family, I think girls in China ought to think twice before coming to Singapore, especially when they think all their problems back home will be solved."
